Wow, 13 lbs. That is big for a yorkie right? Is he a mix? I was told JD will be around 5. Is it true yorkies shouldn't be over 7lbs? I am trying to read so many books right now before I get JD home. I want to be prepared.

| Bradley is a yorkie-poo. I am not sure if yorkies do get bigger then 7 pounds or not. I think they do tho.

The Yorkshire Terrier Breed Standard states that they must be between 4-7 pounds to be shown in the ring. HOWEVER, there are MANY, MANY Yorkies that are lighter or heavier than the breed standard. I haven't weighed my Higgins for awhile, but he was right at 7 lbs and then dropped to 6.5 (?). He hasn't changed much in the last couple of months. We think he's just PERFECT. Could we be just a little biased???

Archie is 9 lbs. at 7 months. As long as you can feel the ribs, that's OK. Yorkies were originally bred to be around 15 lbs., but I like that Archie is a bigger yorkie. I can keep my eye on him better, and he's able to jump on and off the couch and stuff. Congratulations on your new yorkie!!!!

Thanks lickthestar, i was actually having A LOT of trouble locating a larger yorkie, most breeders tend to breed for small pups i saw hardly any advertisements of larger yorkies

yorkie24u....... im not necessarily WORRIED about anything, i love my baby... im just the kind of person that asks lots of questions (let me tell you, my professors HATE IT ) ......... i like to learn more about the breed, it was never meant in a deragotory way towards my baby or anyone elses, im sorry if you took offense or didnt like the kinds of posts i have done.... i am a new yorkie owner and i would just like to know as much as i can, and the only way to do that is to ask question...... Happy Holidays right back at ya (as an afterthought, i cant believe it is almost 2005 )

you didnt offend me at all yorkie24u, people just dont understand that i like to know EVERYTHING,........lol......... even when its about little stuff like that, and honestly....... when you look at a cute lil yorkie puppy, d'you honestly think that anything in the world matters except to spoil them rotten? I am not unhappy with my boy at all, i would have him no other way (except maybe pad trained, and no more ear peircings with toby's baby teeth) but other than that....... I have never owned a yorkie actually, and i only just started wanting one since i took care of my friends yorkie,.... so you could say that i know almost 'nothing' about the breed (and believe me, toby is teaching me VERY fast), so even stuff that may seem obvious or trivial to anyone else, i wouldnt really know..... and i only ask these questions because it is nice getting feedback from actual people versus reading it online in a regular website (that is so boring, lol, and i like to live a little )... anyways, you didnt offend me in the least, i just wanted people to understand that i am a little ignorant yet on these little guys, and the only way to know is to ask questions After that long winded analysis of my own lack of knowlege: A FUNNY STORY!!!! (this should be more like you want to hear yorkie24u) I had gotten home and was really a little ticked off that my boyfriend was leaving his socks all over the living room again!!!! i was very irritated and "cursing his name" as i was in the kitchen making some dinner, and who shoudl come from the bedroom with a sock in his mouth? TOBY, i was laughing histerically because he gave me this look, almost as if to say "well what are you going to do about it?!!".... so i watch as he deposits it on the floor with the other clothes that he has collected, and he goes to get another one! (could he be part bird?!! heh was collecting varous bits of clothing so he could build a 'nest')....lol

It is so funny that your Toby also steal your socks. We cant live a sock for a second on the floor that my Gucci runs to get it and hide it. Happy Holiday to everyone. Hugs, Marie and Gucci
