| When will she stop....................... Can any one tell me when will my sassy Yorkie stop bitting my hands till they bleed? I have had her 7 weeks and she is now 3? months old. I am at my witts end with her bitting, she is no fun to be near. When I try to give her a toy, she reaches for my hand and really bites down hard. I tell her no bite and wap her on the noise. She will give me a kiss or 2 than bite my lip hard . Ginny |

| Awww, I think this is totally normal yorkie baby behavior! Since I have young kids, this was an issue for me because my oldest son was getting all bit up! So I bought some of those disposable latex gloves at the pharmacy (like doctors use) put them on my son and sprayed them all over with bitter apple. Then he offered his hand to her to bite... Never had a problem again LOL |

Lovin' 2 Girls Donating Member | She is teething, and you probably have at least 3 more months of this! Her gums hurt and itch. Buy her natural chews and keep her in chew toys. When she bites you or the family, don't rap her on the nose - either tell her "NO" firmly, or keep a spray bottle handy with water. I must say, however, the water bottle never worked for Abbie. She loved it! She would have drowned before getting the point, so I had to stop using that deterrent. She must learn that human flesh is not teething material. When she bites you, immediately stop all play / attention for a period of time, until she learns she can play-bite softly. Those puppy teeth are lethal! They're like needles.

| My 5 month old chews on my hands all the time, but never hurts me. If she does start getting rough, I just yell OUCH and stop playing with her. The bitter apple/latex glove trick sounds great. |

| Big thanks I did buy garden gloves and put them on, but she bit through those too. I will try the spray(bitter apples) I was beginning to think she was going to be a mean dog. I am 75 and my hands are skin and bones, and she makes them bleed. I am thankful for any help you can give me. Ginny http://www.dogster.com/dogs/453768/sniff |

| I just went to her dogster. She is toooo cute!!! You do NOT look 75 at all!!! How do you do it? As for the biting, my pup did that for a while. He didn't bite until I bled but he was chewing on everyones toes and fingers. Give her lots of chew toys!!

| Our Yorkie bit until he was about 6 months old. He made us bleed all the time. Hands, face, ears, anything he could get to. It was such a tough time. He's 11 months old now and the sweetest, most precious little dog in the world. The biting will end. Hang in there! It's all worth it!

| When pups are playing too rough they YELP...so trying a loud yelping sound and that should stop the bite for the moment...when the bite is stopped reward with pat or treat... Im clicker training and it can be started very young...look into..its fun and so easy for the dog to understand..might keep her busy too!! Dawn |

| Hi, sorry I don't have any advice for you. I never had this problem with mine. I sure hope the little stops this behavior soon.

I got my girl a little early and noticed she had this same tendency. I had read that a gentle nip with our finger tips, a "no" and redirection would change the behavior. It seemed to work for me. When Sadie would bite too hard, I would give her a gentle pinch on the scruff of her neck, with my fingers (not hard to hurt -- just a physical sign for her), say "no bite" and give her something else to chew on. If she did it again, I would leave her area and stop the play. She learned pretty quick and she seems to restrain herself now. Lots of chewing on us but she quit sinking those little needle teeth in.

| You saved my pup Thanks to you all, I will try everything to save my hands. I was ready to give her up. The last time I had a pup was 35 years ago. Having a pup at my age is very hard, especially when you have back problems. It seems you are always bending down. Ginny |

| She is just a puppy so that is why she is biting. I know Chachi had quit doing it by a year old

No Longer a Member | It is normal for small puppies to bite, but they need to learn that it's not acceptable. We had this problem with Chloe early on, and we tried the yelping which is based on this methodThe Bite stops here, but that didn't do the trick entirely. A man from a yorkie yahoo group, said to try this when she bites: So she's biting your finger, take your thumb and press down on her snout. I tried that, but that didnt't totally do it, so I finally found my bite correction move that works. When she bites, and I mean EVERY TIME she bites gently close her snout with your hand wrapped around it, and say in a firm, but not loud or mean voice--you know the "I'm the boss" voice..."no bite". When she goes for white-socked-feet, we clap our hands and say loudly "no bite". The feet one was really a problem. Even though she was only playing, she'd bite feet hard! So one time, I sprayed her with a single shot of water when she was going for a foot, with a sharp No! and I kid you not, she hasn't done it since. She still likes to play with feet, but she doesn't bite--maybe gentle toothless mouthing, but no biting. You have to be on it every time though. Chloe is now 4.5 months old, cutting new teeth and everything, and she rarely bites. This is really important because whenever we go places, little girls especially want to pet her and pick her up, and it is a relief to not have to worry about the biting. hth, |

| Mayzie did this for a little while. I would say "ouch" loudly and then I would say "no bite" and stick a toy in her mouth and when she chewed on it I would say "good girl" It wasn't a problem with her for very long.

| Bobbi, bit my nose a couple of times...........NOT in a bad way, but he was 'playing' with me. Him, the poodle and cat, play by 'biting' each other (gently) and so he thought he could do the same to me Unfortunately, his teeth are like that of a baracuda.........and it hurt He grew out of that stage now. He just licks noses and still plays the biting game with his siblings
