| I am so glad to hear Cosmo is going to be ok. A while back it seemed a lot of puppies had that. The breeder doesn't seem like it is her problem, but if I remember right if one puppy has it in a litter they all probably do. Glad you caught it on time, before you know it Cosmo will be back to normal. I would tell anyone you know looking for a yorkie to stay away from that breeder. It's not like you have had him that long. Feel better Cosmo

| All it takes is a little "stress" from a new environment for a puppy to develop coccidia. It is quite commmon. It is really not usually a "fault" thing as far as the breeder and, if you asked to get the puppy earlier than the breeder wanted to let him go, and, depending on how much you paid for the puppy, I think the breeder is probably right in asking you to bear this expense. Usually, most contracts only guarantee against genetic defects. Normal health issues are sometimes unavoidable and puppies can get sick with no apparent "cause" just because they are young and have undeveloped immune systems. I am so happy that he was able to be treated and will be fine. My daughter's puppy got coccidia 3 days after we brought him home and he was 10 weeks at the time. Unfortunately he was allergic to sulfa which is what albon is made of and is the common medication for treating coccidia. Luckily my breeder knew about Chorid which is used to treat cows and horses I think and this cured him in 5 days. We just need to be happy that our babies get better and live happy, healthy lives. |

| Glad Cosmo was finally diagnosed & on his way to getting better. I'm sure it's not the way you wanted to spend your first weekend with him, but hopefully you will have some good bonding time nursing him back to health! My daughter had a vet bill with her chihuahua today for $325 - she just graduated & looking for a teaching position!! (I think mom & dad will have to help with this bill ) Can't wait to see some pics of Cosmo! |

| Well the breeder told me that the mther did have worms, but she said the puppies were too young to treat. Which makes me angry becuase she never told me. He could not have gotten it with me becuse I noticed it the day after I got him. The day I got him was pretty much a car ride and then he came home and slept, he had no interaction with anyother pet.

| Donating YT 14K Club Member | Well, I've never heard of those illnesses. Is it contageous? How did he get them? If you wanted to be a stickler, you could always contact AKC since she sold you an unhealthy pup. Well, I hope that he gets well soon! But the best medicine of all is LOTS OF LOVE! |

A diarrhea disease caused by a species of coccidia commonly found in the feces of puppies, and occasionally, adult dogs. Coccidia are not worms; they are microscopic parasites which live within cells of the intestinal lining. Because they live in the intestinal tract and commonly cause diarrhea, they are often confused with worms. Hope she doesn't mine me posting this If Cosmo wasn't around other dog than he must have got it from his breeder. Maybe some of the breeders could help with how they get it. Glad he is doing better.

| I fgured he got it from the breeder, becuase he was around a lot of other yorkies. He was outside a lot too. He has not been outside since I got him, only to carry him to the car to go to the vet and back. I dont mind you posting it, Iam curious about this to because the breeder told me that if she kept him longer then she would ave had to pay the bill, hoever, she was the one that siad is saturday okay. Then she told me after I drove 3 1/2 hours that she could have probably kept him another month. I always told her in my e-mails the it was all about Cosmo's heath when i got him, I did not care as lng and he was healthy and rady to come to his new home.

| That's pretty scary the breeder did that KNOWING that Cosmo's mother had worms. I think it highly irresponsible to do that. |

| I am so happy to hear Cosmo is on the road to recovery! Bless his little heart...and yours too! As far as giving him his pills...when I had to give Maddie hers, I bought some of those baby food chicken sticks and would just cut one small and take a toothpick to hollow it out and then press the pill inside. She took it every time (I'd watch to make sure the pill didn't fall out while she ate the "treat"). I have heard other members say they give their yorkies those for treats, so I gave it a try and it made her taking her pills much easier and less stressful! |

| Staci, be thankfull you got him when you did, there has been members on here that lost there puppy to this, because the didn't find out in time. Cosmo sounds like he is on the road to recovering. He is lucky to have you as a mom, if you wouldn't have got him know telling how sick he would be. It would be interesting to know if any of her other dogs have it.
