This collar issue can be a very confusing; at least it is for me. My dogs are micro-chipped, and do not wear collars. They wear adorable harnesses for walking, i.e. dresses and vests with d rings. (Thanks Shanatink, sorry I have not posted pictures) If you leave a harness of any type on for long periods of time they will matt, so that will not help with tags. Micro chipping is great, and I recommend it, however not all vets scan for micro chipping, and many people are not aware of this fairly new procedure. So if my baby was lost or stolen and the vet does not scan, he/she would think the person bringing in my dog was the owner. Additionally, if one of my babies got out and someone found them without ID tags many people would think I’m not a good mom, as I don’t care enough to get my kids tags and would keep them. In my humble opinion, micro chipping is great if your dog is turned into the humane society, but for every day life I prefer collars and ID tags. If my dog is found by a nice honest human being and is tagged, they simply have to call and I have my baby back. As of now my kids are still collarless, but I am seriously considering getting them collars with tags, as they are almost 1 year old and not tiny. The jury is still out for my little buffalo butts getting tags, but as for little puppies, collars are not the best idea. Almost forgot, WELCOME to YT, you will enjoy it here...

| and that is where their name tags are on but I always use a harness for walks etc..I don't attach leash to the collar because it can damage their little tracheas( throat area) etc.. Welcome- you are going to be addicted to this site!

| Yes, the collar issue is one that I am struggling with as well. Mine will probably end up wearing them (with tags) at least part of the time, as I live in an area where many are not even aware of microchipping, and I was advised against going that route. You will find that many people have different opinions about the safety of little ones wearing these constantly (b/c of choking issues), but there is always the option of a break-away collar. The main thing is.....never attach a leash to a collar, or grab them by the collar...sensitive little tracheas! ![]() Won Ton is super cool, and looks like he'll be nothing but fun! How did you pick his name?

| Thanks so much guys for the VERY helpful advice! I will go get a harness and look into microchipping when I go to the vet. The name Won Ton came from my daughter! Yup, so I can't take all the credit. She loves won ton soup at the local chinese restraunt and so that was it. Additionally, we lived in Asia for a very long time and so I thought it was very appropriate! |
