| Solution to beautiful yorkys dry itchy skin!!!! So my puppy harley has been itching like crazy, he's healthy as could be though! I thought something may be wrong, fleas, infection, who knows! Well, a little birdy told me how small dogs and their coats can be sensitive! Very! & depending on your puppy's lifestyle, he may need a lot of baths, more than normal like my little harley. Solution: leave in conditioner spray that has diphenhydramine! (Stuff that's in Benadryl) it helps itching and swelling and dry sensative Yorky skin! Plus it smells good! You can ask your vet for it, it's called benasoothe and it smells wonderful and is soft as a pillow and harley hasn't cocked his leg back for an intense scratch since! No more whining no more rubbing his face on the carpet! He's so happy with his new smooth skin so I thought I would share this since others probably have the same issue, it was a little pricey, 17$ but how could you resist something that will help your little four legged family member be comfortable?! I know I couldn't ;-) enjoy!!!! |

| Where did you get the Benesmoothe, at a vet's, pet store, or online?

| I got a prescription for it from my vet at banfield but any vet can prescribe it as long as you tell them that your dog has a lifestyle that causes him to need more baths then normal causing his skin to be dry which is making him itch like crazy, or even if your dog doesn't bathe too much but still has dry itchy skin, esp. With winter coming ;-) I haven't seen it online so I don't think you can get it anywhere but the vet but also if you're like me and have to bathe your sweet heart ever so often look into getting a puppy/doggy shampoo that says hypoallergenic on it, it helps a looottt along with the spray conditioner that I mentioned. Good luck and if you have any trouble let me know and we can figure something else out for your baby! |

| If you were wondering about a shampoo I know I said hypoallergenic but I just wanted to say that I use the burts bees hypoallergenic 2 in 1 shampoo conditioner, it helps a lot along with the prescription conditioner spray, you can use it between bathes also which is great, it's been two days and I haven't seen one scratch and no dry skin dandruff either so I give it an A+ for sure! And I'm really picky so that says a lot hahaha good luck! |

| Sorry one more thing but instead of having to Make an appt and pay for that to get the spray you can just call and say you'd like a prescription for it considering your dog has dry skin and it's been bothering them, they should do it for you instead of making a pointless appointment :-) |

| Thank you for the information! Im lucky that my little ones don't have that problem right now, but I like to write stuff like this down for future reference. My littlest one is only 8 mos. old, but who know what the future might bring, especially her first winter!

| Yes my little harley is 4 months old and he got hit with it but I have had to bathe him once a week recently because of the rain we got here and his obsession with digging holes and then rolling in them :-) oh and did I mention when he sees a puddle he's got to jump in it like a 2 year old? Lol... Also he's been getting shots recently and his skin gets irritated afterward, also he had a reaction to a food change and it irritated his skin, so since it has Benadryl in it, it really helps with any skin reactions... She told me yorkys tend to have sensitive skin.. And did I mention it smells sooo good? I'm a new mommy as well to the Yorky world so I love new advice when it comes to the little ones. The vet tends to leave a lot out, like when he got his lime disease shot she didn't tell me it takes a looottttt out of them, so I get home and he can't stand up and is crying and it was scary! So any advice is much appreciated. |

| The only one that's been effective for harley is the prescription one bensasoothe, seeing that I already had him on the hypoallergenic all natural shampoo/conditioner and it wasn't doing the job for keeping him moisturized with a the baths he gets, the prescription topped it off and helped a lot no more whining and itching, however if you don't have to bathe yours as much as I do then id say you'd be fine with any hypoallergenic shampoo and conditioner but if he/she gets dry skin between baths I would ask your vet for the spray :-) after all harley is just a puppy and makes mistakes like going potty and then clumsily tripping himself into it... So he tends to need quite a few more baths then regular. |
