Bless his little heart. Heat stroke can come on very fast for these little ones that are active like that. Maybe spend as much down time in the shade as when he is playing. Hope all is well with the little guy.

Great advice, everyone. We're not used to this kind of heat -- yes, we consider mid-70s a heat wave! -- so it's nice to get some good advice.

I'm definitely going to get a water bottle as recommended to carry with me any time we're outside for an extended period.

Lola can not take the heat which is a challenge since she plays hard and often refuses water, so I dribble it down the side of her mouth. but I think what is more important is I keep dripping cool water on her back, her head and under her neck. When we walk in the summer we always stop at an area to swim or I wet her down pretty good before we start. The next time you go out to play when it is hot, try wetting him down a bit first and see if that helps, if anything it will at least make Joel more feisty, which LOL I know you want to do

And I usually bring a syringe for when he won't drink water, but of course I didn't bring it this time, so maybe he didn't get enough . I think I'm just going to exercise him later in the day when it's cooler

Glad Joel is doing better. IMHO, it wouldn't hurt to run this past your vet.

Perhaps if your pups overheat and you like to be out a lot, you should look into one of those cooling jackets. I saw them at Woofstock and although it was a hot day there, the jacket they had on display was still very cool hours later. Many dogs were wearing them at the event.

Hi Donna: just google dog cooling vests. I am sure there will be someone near you selling them. They have been used by police dogs and such for quite some time. When we saw them at woofstock we were amazed how cool they were considering they were in the hot sun.
