| Preparing for Haircut Week I just have to do it. Deuce needs a haircut. His hair is just getting toO long to manage without tying it up so he doesn't get it messy. The cut will probably take me all week. I usually do a little each day so I'll post the progress on here. I'm not sure what I want to leave though. So this will take some time as I create. Today was the bath. He looks sooooo great and smells wonderful - Yorkie Splash and Shine always does the trick. Tomorrow I'm targeting his torso. I just have to trim the hair on his body so he doesn't pee all over it when he lifts his leg. I'm not sure how to taper the body to the front and hind legs. I also am not sure what to do with the hair on his chest. It's so long. I don't want to shave him all over so I need to do some creative scissor work. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Let's see where this goes. Wish us luck!!!!!

| He's beautiful! I'll be watching to see how you do this as I've never groomed a dog before and I really want to learn how to groom Princess Sophie! Good luck!!

| He has such beautiful hair! Have you found a picture of a cut you like so that you have a goal in mind before you begin?

| I've cut his hair down before. I have a few examples of what I've done in my album of him on here. Like this one below. I actually shaved his body with a long adapter on the blade. I just fret over feathering in the legs and chest. I never seem to know where to start it. Blending shears are my best friend as long as I don't chop him up too much.

YT 2000 Club Member | Teeka just got a hair cut yesterday. Her hair wasn't long like his....I used a scissors all over and layered it on her back and legs. I need to blend the legs yet, but I left a pony tail on top. It is not super short, but short enough for summer. It makes her look a little more filled out! Yah! I really like it on her....kind of like when she was a puppy!

| Im watching closely... :-) Alice had a bad experience at the groomer last time (she came home and was limping horribly for two days) ..they say "nothing happened" but i figure we are prob just better off if I can start doing more of it myself... her hair isnt as long as your boys but am excited to see how he turns out.. and think i will rummage about in the archives for tips etc.. :-) |

YT 2000 Club Member | The first picture is before and the other 2 are after her haircut. I left the length about 2 1/2 in on her back and shorter on her legs. Her pony is about the same length. I was trying to load photos but it keeps telling me there is an internet server error! Any ideas? I tried 3 times!

| Ok so we did our first phase of the haircut today. Took the grooming table out on the deck and went to work. I scissor trimmed his torso. Actually that's all I really want to accomplish right now. We did shave some of the privacy area and the upper third of his ears. I also rounded out his paws a bit and that was all for today. Hubby wants me to use the clippers with an adapter to shave his body so it looks shaggy but ughhhhhhhh I love his coat sooo much. We'll see how I feel tomorrow. Maybe I'll go for the shave in June when it's warmer. Here's the pic so far. Tail is down - he's had enough.
