| What age is a good time for a yorkie pup to leave its mother? Hi, I had to put my 7 yr old Yorkie down last May & have been heartbroken since!!! So I contacted the breeder where I got my first little girl & I think she let me take her home at around 14-16 weeks b/c of her size. My new pup is now 7 weeks & Im sooo anxious to bring her home but Im not sure if I should ask to bring her home before 12 weeks? Is 11 OK? I definitely don't want to bring her home too early for health & social reasons. Any advice or knowledge on this topic???? |

| Hi and Welcome to YT! 12 weeks is best... sometimes longer if the pup is a 'tiny'. Many breeders will keep them until they are a certain weight, bc when they go to a new home there can be issues with eating or not eating and such as they become accustomed to their new environment.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Wow, it's so refreshing to hear of a breeder who wants to keep them till 12 weeks. let alone longer. Even though the pup has stopped nursing, mom is teaching important socialization skills and inhibition of the biting reflex. A good momma will also start the beginning of potty training and nudge the pup over to the pee pad when she knows the pup has to go. Also, a good breeder will be teaching good socialization skills as well. Leave your pup with the breeder as long as she thinks it's wise, smaller pups have trouble with hypoglycemia, which can be life threatening, and you have to treat it immediately. Be proud, it sounds like you may have found a good breeder!
