| Hi Ya'all! Well, I've finally taken the plunge and committed myself to a little one. Right now he is much too little to take home (only 4 weeks old), but I look forward to the day... In fact, I'm obsessing about it Have already made the initial vet appointment. I got to hold him, his siblings, and his parents and they are all so beautiful. He will not be teeny tiny (am trying not to use the wrong language to upset some anyone), but will probably only grow to around 4.5 lbs., which will be just perfect for me because I've had sooo many back surgeries and have limitations in movement, etc. Right now there are no mammals in my home, only birds. One is a Catalina macaw (22 months old) who thinks he is responsible for everyone. I took him to see the puppy yesterday to observe his reaction, and he loved the adult dogs!! He wanted to play, but I didn't think that would ever be a good idea (just in case, to be safe). He certainly enjoyed the trip. Any suggestions on what items I absolutely need to get in order first would be appreciated, and advise about whether it is ok to leave the puppy in a crate (I have one already that is about 2.5 x 1 1/4' already) or a basket by the bed at night so that I may listen for any problems? I'm afraid I won't have thought of everything. I am a (early-retired) human behavior specialist and hope that helps when it comes to training!! Well, anyway, am enjoying reading about everyone's babies and thoughts. Blessings. |

| Oh my gosh, he is just darling. Can't wait to watch the little guy grow, be sure to post lots of pictures. So excited for you....this little guy will steal you heart in a mere second. When do you get to bring him home, at what age. I know the wait is horrible...but your little love bug in the end, will be amazing.

| First off - Hi and Welcome!!! You will get lots of information here. You have plenty of time before you get your puppy so go through some of the old posts and read up on as much as you can. There are really very knowledgeable people on here. You will be amazed. What I can suggest is try not to get too anxious and bring the puppy home to early. It is very highly recommended that the puppy not leave its mom and littermates before 12 weeks of age (Definitely not before 10). It learns a lot from them, so it is never a good idea to take them away too early. You may have separation anxiety issues, biting, barking - and that may be due to them leaving too early. I know you probably can't wait to get him home - but it will be better fro you in the long run too. What I did when I got my first puppy home - and it really helped me so much - was to get a baby's pack n' play. You can probably find a used on fairly cheap. You can then put it anywhere in the house that is comfortable for you and for the puppy not to feel that he has been left alone and away from everyone. The on one side you can put a soft comfy bed, his food and water bowls - and on the other side you can line it with the pee pads. Slowly, slowly you can expand its area - but really do it slowly so you can have a better eye on him. You really can't fully start housebreaking until about 4 months old. You will need lots and lots of patience - and give lots and lots of praise for when he goes when he's suppose to go. My Coco was fully 100% housebroken by the time she was 8 months old. Beckham............... well we can say we are still working on it. LOL! Again, welcome and good luck with your new little addition. Hope you enjoy him.

| What a cute puppy! You will have plenty of time to get ready and puppy-proof your home. I cannot remember now who it was that had the prettiest bird and a yorkie, too. They posted a video of the two of them together and they got along very well. It was really cute. Congratulations. Perhaps this link will help you: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...w-parents.html

| Congratulations! You must be so excited. It is so much fun preparing for a new puppy. Don't forget to get lots of little toys for him to play with, so he doesn't try to chew on other things, although he might try to do that anyway. my little girl seems to have always liked the soft cuddly toys better than the rubbery ones. |
