| Shadow all grown up and Ryder our rescue!!!! Some of you might remember Shadow. I haven't been on here in a while so my fault. Shadow is now almost 3!!!! Ryder was being given away because the girls husband was going to have him put to sleep if he wasn't found a home. So we adopted little Ryder! Photos 1 and 2 are of Shadow Photos 3 and 4 are of Ryder Last edited by Carrie83; 01-21-2011 at 03:46 PM. |

| It really is sad because according to her they had found him and tried to find his owner around Thanksgiving. Her husband wanted him gone because he isn't completely housebroke, had a ton of fleas and thought he had mange because his hair is thin. Got him home and the poor guy has never been groomed so his hair was poking him in the eye poor baby. Gave him a bath and no mange and no fleas! Just thin. Got a wormer from the vet to see if that is causing his weight issues. Sadly can't get him to the vet for a couple of weeks because everyone is so booked. We have had him now for 3 days and I wouldn't trade having 2 yorkies! |

| I would have gotten rid of the husband I'd never allow anyone to give me that ultimatum. I'm glad you took him in.

| I was shocked when I read this on my phone!!!! Why would anyone want to put a PUPPY (8-12 mo) to sleep just because of a few "problems"? They didn't have the money to take him to the vet to get checked out but she was about to take 4 kids out to eat!!!! Makes me sick honestly. He is a happy baby now and spoiled to death. Shadow is having so much fun having a dog his size to play with since our other 2 dogs are huge! |

| Our pound will put them down the same day that they arrive if they are an owner surrender.... I was told this by an officer that works there too. I walked out of there crying and so upset when he told me that. Our SPCA is always full and turns pets down constantly so there isn't very many options for someone who wants to rehome a pup. |

|
It was great that you gave him a new home where he can be loved. I don't want to diminish that at all but I don't think any vet would seriously put a puppy to sleep just because the owner wanted him to. That would be abusive and I would think against ANY ethics and some laws. The vet would have probably suggested a no-kill shelter instead.
As a matter of fact...this does happen all the time and in private Veterinarian offices. An owner can even put into their will that after their death, they wish to have their pet euthanized vs. surrendered to a rescue group. I've actually witnessed this occurence twice while I waited in a Veterinarian's office. Both times it was the executor of the deceased owner who brought the pet in and each time...it broke my heart. Nothing I could say would sway either parties each time I had to watch this. The Veterinarian sympathized with my feelings but, his former patient expected him to follow his last wishes. Although, each dog was not a puppy and both were senior pets...they still appeared to have several years left to enjoy with someone else who could care for & love them till then. Since this happened, I have discussed with my Veterinarian that if such a conversation would occur in his office with a pets owner, that he would please consider approaching the subject of allowing any rescue group, especially a breed specific group a chance to rescue. He assured me he would. And...to the OP, thank you for giving this sweetheart another chance at enjoying the life he was so deserving of having here on earth!
