| Donating YT 500 Club Member | After the adventure with the guitar, we drove about 10 miles outside of Jackson to a tiny place called Pinson. We went to see the Indian mounds that are there but we ended up only going into the museum. It was just too hot to hike to the mounds. However, you can read a bit about them here...plus, the museum is designed to appear like one of the mounds. TN State Parks: Pinson Mounds State Archaeological Park The following sentence about the Pinson Mounds will give you some idea of their significance in case you don't care to read the short article. Pinson Mounds is the largest Middle Woodland period mound group in the United States, and dates to about 1-500 A.D. The Native Americans that built the mounds lived long before historically known Native American tribes, and used the site for ceremonial purposes. Picture 34: The museum shot from the parking lot. Picture 35: Yodi seems to like to pose on signs. Picture 36: Arrowheads found in the area. |

| Donating YT 500 Club Member | We were the only ones visiting the museum and when the director discovered that Yodi was visiting from England, she was even allowed access to areas kept under lock and key. They even let her pose with some of the valuable displays! Picture 37: Further proof that Yodi is not a pet...nor edible! Picture 38: They unlocked the case and let Yodi have her picture made with these valuable collectibles. Even we were surprised at this! Picture 39: Yodi makes herself at home beside the ancient pottery shards. |

Picture 42: By now the state park official is even suggesting neat places for Yodi's picture to be taken and suggests the back of this stuffed coyote! |

| Donating YT 500 Club Member | By now, we are thoroughly wiped out from the heat. However, I so wanted to take Yodi to the Casey Jones Village which Jackson is somewhat famous for. Hopefully, she can come back again sometime and we can do some of the other things I wanted to do but couldn't. You can read more about the museum here. He was credited with sacrificing himself to save his passengers on a railroad train. He has become quite the legend and you may have heard songs sung about him. MuseumPage Picture 43: We didn't have time to share much of our area's history involving the Civil War. Yodi did want to read this which is at the Casey Jones Village. Pictures 44 and 45: Taken from the car as we left the museum. We had almost reached the point of heat exhaustion and had to get home. (The heat index was supposed to be 105-1110 today. The last time we got back into our car, the interior was 106. I didn't even know it would register that high!) |

| Donating YT 500 Club Member | You'll notice that I didn't even dress Yodi for her excursions today. She just looked so hot that I couldn't bear to. Just a quick wrap-up about Jackson, TN for you all. Tomorrow is church and lounging about. It's possible we might do something in the afternoon but I seriously doubt it. The heat wave is not supposed to break until later next week and we just about overdid the running around today. Anyway...things you may have never known about Jackson... 1. We are the largest "small" city besides Memphis is west TN. We are located halfway between Memphis to the west and Nashville to the east. 2. We really do have the only Proctor & Gamble plant in the USA that makes Pringles. The other places are just distribution points. The only other place in the world that makes Pringles is Belgium. 3. We only have a population of about 60,000-62,000 people (59,000+ in last census) but we have 4 colleges within our city limits. Three are 4-year universities and one is a junior community college. Plus, we have a cosmetoloty school, a business college, and a technical school not included in the previously mentioned schools. 4. We have been in the news quite a bit in the last few years due to the tornadoes that have hit our city. Last year you may remember reading about Union University and the miracle of no students dying there. They were hit hard. We live in the general vicinity and had mattresses from the dorms end up in some of the yards of our subdivision. (We had $15,000 damage and 2 houses down on our street, those two houses were totally destroyed. They were less than about 8 car lengths from our house. The tornado started going down at our house and kept touching closer down as it traveled our street.) 5. These are a few of the folks that are either from here or have some connection to Jackson that you may have heard of: the guy who founded the Hard Rock Cafe (actually his first was in the little mall here until the restaurant folded...!), Ed Too Tall Jones from the Dallas Cowboys, the woman who married Scott Hamilton (ice skater), the wife of one of the members of Rascal Flatts (can't recall her name right now), and we watched "The Bachelor" when ER doc Dr. Travis picked Sarah Stone who is from Jackson. (Don't ask...I have no idea what she's doing now but they are not together as far as I know.) This has been a fun time for us. I wish we could have done more with Yodi. Vicky, we'd like another shot at showing her around in cooler times perhaps. Who knew we were going to hit these record temps like we have! We'll let Yodi and Taffy play tomorrow...and perhaps enjoy a bit of a birthday bash since Taffy will be 6 months old tomorrow. Monday we'll take her to the post office for the beginning of her journey to the next host family. Now I've got to go fix some supper (it is the South, you know...we have dinner at lunchtime) so everyone can have happy tummies. |

| Donating YT 500 Club Member | Yikes...logged on to check some things before I journal Yodi's adventures with us. It appears that the heat fried my brain. I've never seen so many spelling and grammatical errors as there are in my posts! (And forever more...yesterday's heat index was 105-110...LOL...it did feel like it was in the 1000's though. Gag...I hope none of my former math students see that entry with the numbers I typed. They'll be thinking I need the men with the little white coats...LOL) Yodi is such fun to have visit. Neither my husband nor I had ever been to Pinson Mounds and it's one of our state parks! Who knew? LOL (My huband did but had never mentioned it nor visited there and he is a state retiree from the Dept. of Environment and Conservation!) I also saw the monument sculpture they had erected in memory of the tornado victims of 1999 but we were in too much traffic to get a photo of it. I'd never seen it before but plan to return. It was a beautiful tribute and I want to explore it a bit more. Once Yodi has an opportunity to visit everyone registered, I hope you will consider letting her revisit folks, too. There are several things I had planned that just weren't possible with the present heat warnings. We had a rocky start with Taffy trying to play the Princess Diva turned demon but Yodi set her straight and the two enjoyed the visit after Yodi stood her ground! And get this...Yodi has even picked up a bit of a Southern accent while here. I overheard her tell Taffy that if "y'all" ever come to England... To tell you the truth, I didn't hear the rest but I assume she was telling Taffy to come see her. I was trying not to laugh out loud but it was so cute hearing her say "y'all" (prounounced ywall) with a British accent! |

| Thank you for all the pictures ~ with that heat, I would have been real tempted to just stay inside and nap in the air conditioner!

| She decided she wants to be Canadian after all. The next best thing to being back with the Brits is to be back with the British Columbians. ![]() So I think Yodi's moving in with me. Sorry everyone! She won't be making her rounds anymore! Her tour ends there in Tennessee and that was a super heated and sweaty farewell! ![]() ![]() |
