You'll notice that I didn't even dress Yodi for her excursions today. She just looked so hot that I couldn't bear to.
Just a quick wrap-up about Jackson, TN for you all. Tomorrow is church and lounging about. It's possible we might do something in the afternoon but I seriously doubt it. The heat wave is not supposed to break until later next week and we just about overdid the running around today.
Anyway...things you may have never known about Jackson...
1. We are the largest "small" city besides Memphis is west TN. We are located halfway between Memphis to the west and Nashville to the east.
2. We really do have the only Proctor & Gamble plant in the USA that makes Pringles. The other places are just distribution points. The only other place in the world that makes Pringles is Belgium.
3. We only have a population of about 60,000-62,000 people (59,000+ in last census) but we have 4 colleges within our city limits. Three are 4-year universities and one is a junior community college. Plus, we have a cosmetoloty school, a business college, and a technical school not included in the previously mentioned schools.
4. We have been in the news quite a bit in the last few years due to the tornadoes that have hit our city. Last year you may remember reading about Union University and the miracle of no students dying there. They were hit hard. We live in the general vicinity and had mattresses from the dorms end up in some of the yards of our subdivision. (We had $15,000 damage and 2 houses down on our street, those two houses were totally destroyed. They were less than about 8 car lengths from our house. The tornado started going down at our house and kept touching closer down as it traveled our street.)
5. These are a few of the folks that are either from here or have some connection to Jackson that you may have heard of: the guy who founded the Hard Rock Cafe (actually his first was in the little mall here until the restaurant folded...!), Ed Too Tall Jones from the Dallas Cowboys, the woman who married Scott Hamilton (ice skater), the wife of one of the members of Rascal Flatts (can't recall her name right now), and we watched "The Bachelor" when ER doc Dr. Travis picked Sarah Stone who is from Jackson. (Don't ask...I have no idea what she's doing now but they are not together as far as I know.)
This has been a fun time for us. I wish we could have done more with Yodi. Vicky, we'd like another shot at showing her around in cooler times perhaps. Who knew we were going to hit these record temps like we have!
We'll let Yodi and Taffy play tomorrow...and perhaps enjoy a bit of a birthday bash since Taffy will be 6 months old tomorrow. Monday we'll take her to the post office for the beginning of her journey to the next host family.
Now I've got to go fix some supper (it is the South, you know...we have dinner at lunchtime) so everyone can have happy tummies. |
