She flys her other breeds of dogs to the Netherlands personally. Anyone have one of these frail sized versions of Yorkies? Ever had to deal with hypoglycemia? I deal with patients in the hospital all the time but I imagine this is a little different!

Lida Rose sounds a lot like your Twinkles. She is very petite and has thinner hair, I don't know if she was the runt. She's 11 weeks, weighs 18 ounces and stands 5 inches from floor to shoulder blade. Tiny bones, feathery hair. But new hair is growing in underneath that seems thick.

The silky terrier resulted from crossings of Yorkshire terrier and Australian terrier. The silky is a toy dog class that originated in Australia in the early 20th cent. It stands about 10 in. (25 cm) high at the shoulder and weighs from 8 to 10 lb (3.6.-4.5 kg). Its silky, flat-lying hair is between 5 and 6 in. (12.7-15.2 cm) long and hangs straight down from the sides of the body. Its color is blue with tan markings on the face and legs and a silver or fawn topknot. It has always been raised as a house pet and companion. So a silky comes from a yorkie but is a mix with an australian terrier. Their bone structure is a bit more stouty and strong and so is their temperment. They make a wonderful family dog but not a great lap dog. They are awesome rat chasers as they were bred for it. IMO the face, head and bone structure say alot. The longer nose, the flatter head (instead of domey and chihuahua like) the heaver bone structure. Silkies have a very hard time getting along with cats and squirrels ect. By the way I went back and looked at my old silky Buddy's photos and he has a green reflection in all of them. Coincidence? dunno for sure to be honest LOL.

Oh yea silkies are in NO way petite, and aren't under 7 lbs as adults. My silky had a shiney coat but slightly cottony at times. Sometimes it depends on grooming so just because their name implys "silky" I woudn't go by that to identify the class.

Wow...this is quite irrelevant yet perplexing! Sure Twinkle is my honey. Yet now I am still curious. Her coat is so light it looks silver or white in the sun and her head is a caramel/blonde color. Her skin is all very dark underneath the coat. I also have noticed other Yorkies have hair on the outside of their ears. She does not...they are bald! The hair starts at the base of the ears. She definetly couldn't have them exposed to the Minnesota winter air. I will certianly have to have her in booties, a sweater and hat for trips outside to the car or bathroom on a nice day! Seems she had more hair as a puppy and gradually went semi- bald! I have a fondness for the look since I had entertained the thought of a Chinese Crested till I saw her. Then I lost my heart. One thing is for sure she can't shed! The most hair she has is on her head!

Sounds like maybe she's a yorkie/short haired chihuahua mix? I would love to see a picture. She sounds so sweet and interesting looking.

Oh yea and I know of some diseases and worms that cause the hair to fall out like that. Has she seen the vet?

Twinkle is registered as a Yorkie purebred and her parents and litter are with my sister in law who breeds Yorkies. She is what seems to be a "runt" of the litter in a lack of better word. Her parents are full coated and stocky built as well as her siblings. They look like most of the ones I see posted here. Wonder if a Chihuahua recessive gene surfaced when Twinkle's number came up? lol She has a totally petite slender body frame compared to them. Had my husband and I not seen her throughout her birth and maturing or the parents and litter you would naturally wonder. She does look like a Yorkie...just little hair and very petite frame and face. She is registered as "Mary's Twinkling Star". She is just super small! I will post the pictures of her on the album in here as they are digital and too big to attatch to this post. Take a look at the pictures and tell me what happened. Maybe need to use Rogaine on her next bath? Kidding!

Oh yea and another thing about my old silky, he was super smart and really easy to train from very early on. He understood english and spanish and had a long list of tricks and commands that he listened to. He also understood an eerie amount of english. So much so sometimes I swore he was a human in a doggie body LOL. My neighbors loved him very much, he had a way of bringing people together and getting them to talk.

Twiklesmom, I can only speak from my experience and that of other Yorkie breeders..The eye flash does indeed apply. Many people who have a show potential puppy use the color of the eye flash to help determine coat texture. BUT, you cannot judge that til the uppy is older. And, another thing I have found is that the runt of the litter frequently has a different texture and amount of coat. My boy Jess, ws the runt and you can see in his pics that he had a wondeful coat. His eyes were also green.
As for the ears that have no hair, that is called alopecia and often accompanies the sparse, more wiry coat. That is not connected in any way to leather ear. The tan fringe does not usually seem affected and requires trimming...
You MUST use a sunscreen on the ears and nose or any other area that is not covered by a thick coat..

They are usually blue until 5-6 months. That's why I got so excited with my first green one.
