Follow your heart. You know what is best for you. You can't bring Elvis back, but your heart has room to give and receive much love.

Agree with Bellabean. Go with your heart. A new puppy occupies nearly every ounce of energy you have. They make you smile through the tears. In my opinion, a new puppy makes it bearable. I know. I've been there. Each person, though, has their own feelings to work through.

A good first step is to find a good breeder and go from there. I had a specific size yorkie in mind when I went on my search, but the breeder I liked most (Deb Sillers) didn't have any that size. Thus I went a little smaller because the quality of breeder was more important to me than having the exact size. And it has been an incredible decision, as I'm so in love with my pup Cookie that I got from her.

So to answer your question, I do think it might be a mistake to have a specific yorkie in mind. It's good to have broad ideas in mind (e.g., I was looking for a larger active yorkie), but choosing breeder first is my recommendation.

I am happy to hear that you are ready to open your heart and home to another Yorkie. Whether you are looking for one that looks much like Elvis, you will have to realize that there is no guarantee. Please don't set yourself up for disappointment if your new one doesn't turn out just the same, as you can see from all of ours, they do vary in size and color.

I hope you concentrate more on finding a great breeder that produces healthy pups, and let your new pup be a whole new experience in looks, personality, and just let the new one bring lots of joy and magic into your life.

I think you are doing the right thing. I got Kinder six months after my beloved Keally died. We were so devastated but Kinder was an angel from God. We never can replace our loved ones but we can love another again. Elvis would love to see you happy and give another baby a wonderful home as you did for him. There are so many babies out there that would like to have a loving home.We think of our Keally everyday and the wonderful memories. I wished I could of got Kinder sooner because she brought joy to our hearts and helped us through the tough loss. Hope all goes well for you and hope to see a post on a little puppy soon.Susan

Default We just got our new boy

I think it was easier getting a boy and not a girl.. Too close to home...

It felt right and i think its what our family needed...

Just my thoughts
I have so much yorkie love i cant imagine not sharing it... And i wanted that unconditional love... BACK

As long as you are mindful that no pup can replace Elvis, I think you are fine. The new pup will just open up a whole new spot in your heart

When our 90lb lab mutt rescue died at age 13 (we had him from 9 weeks), we were so devastated that we didn't get another dog for over 5 years, and when we did, we went to the opposite end of the size spectrum. We didn't want to compare, because Homer was the best dog that ever lived. Of course, now that we have Huey, I absolutely can't imagine ever not having a dog ever again, and they will always be yorkie or silky or yorkie/silky mix like Huey. I love the personalities of yorkies & the portability (as compared to a 90lb dog!).

Default No 2 Yorkies are the same.

We have had Yorkies for over 22 years....all related and they still are each different in their own ways. They share similar traits at times but their personalities are their own. Our Shiloh is 10 years young and I hate to even think of the day he isn't crying, barking and being playful. Could I replace him...never...could I start a new bonding with another Yorkie...of course. But we have 4 yorkies...someone will always need our attention (love), our time (playtime), our help (grooming) and our patience (crying, barking and yapping). Our herd range in ages from 10 years to 9 weeks...we just had puppies. The next generation isn't replacing anyone only continuing the Yorkie love in our house. Our suggestion is to find your next furbaby...not a replacement but a new chapter in your life. Whether a rescue or a puppy, just be patient, loving and enjoy the time spent together. Go visit the breeder and ask a lot of questions...we have to meet our buyers of our puppies and we ask questions...we are responsible for their lives and take that seriously. Remember Yorkies are big lovers in little bodies...they will lift your spirits when you are down and always make you feel wanted. Good luck and please contact us to talk "Yorkie" anytime. We live in NC also, near Charlotte. Now it's time to wash the adult Yorkies and take the puppies outside before it rains...7 dogs equals a whole lot of Yorkie going on. Take care and now go find your Yorkie and know that Elvis wants you to be happy and knows you will never forget him.

Its funny how our paths keeps crossing John. I did the same thing exactly, first i felt like I am betraying my Tootsie. Then decided to honour her memory and have another yorkie. I took out her photos and looked for the most similar puppy, did not find any. Now I am getting Sassy after tomorrow, she does not look like Tootsie at all and I have mixed feelings, but everyone tells me I will love her once I see her. I am sure I will. Let me know when you get your puppy.

Thanks so much for the advice...I went into this with an open heart, and wanted to find another baby that is individual, and unique..that we did...We have the runt of the litter, he is a tiny baby...born at 5 ounces...He is healthy now and is 9 oz....and 3 months..the vet says he is healthy, and he is much different than Elvis, and for that I am glad....It is neat to see who he is becoming...He is a snuggler, a picky eater, and loves to be wrapped up in a blanket...Elvis would have never stood for that...He makes our hearts smile, with laughter once again...
