| I'm in the burbs but I can try to get to where ever you guys decide, as long as it's not Gurnee or Waukegan. That would be a stretch for me.

OK, peeps, I can't wait any longer and am taking the leadership if nobody else wants to do it. I found a good location for a play date. Now I need people to give me a deffinite idea as to how many of you will come and what date and time works best for everybody. The location is: Of Mutts and Men . It is an INDOOR Dog Park where your dog can run and play off leash. For the humans, there are sofas, pool tables, chess boards, free coffee, board games, a boom box for our listening pleasure and a TV area. For the dogs there is a ring to practice obedience or other lessons. Water is free for the dogs and there is free coffee. Also, for humans its BYOB, so feel free to bring a beverage of your choice. There is a packaged good store next door and a Starbucks. Logistics 1. A day pass is $3 per dog and $3 per human (a monthly pass is $40). Children under the age of 12 are free. 2. You MUST bring proof that you dog is current on his or her vaccinations. 3. You get your hand stamped, so you can go and go all day long. 4. There is one loading and unloading parking spot on Belmont. Street parking is available. 5. Their hours are Monday to Friday 9am to 7pm; Saturdays Noon to 7pm; Sundays 3pm to 7pm 6. If we want to rent the entire place out for a private evening party (with or without our dogs) from 7pm to 11pm the fee is $150. So, we need a sufficient participation to reduce our cost. Let me know who is in and who is out. Milena

yah thanks for researching this! I am IN but I do have one question first - my pup is 11 weeks old. do you think he is too young for this? I personally don't think so based on his playful and energetic personality, but I have to say that he still has a few set of shots to get from the vet (2 more). should I wait?

Mike, You should be getting a 2nd set of shots pretty soon right? I would call the place (Mutts and Men) and see what their policy is. If all the dogs coming into the place have to be immunized, your pup will be ok I think. But I am not a vet! I got conflicting info about shots before Fiona was totally immunized. I didn't take her out till she was completely finished with shots (16 weeks) and she has been fine with socialization, but if I had to do it over again I would have taken her more places earlier.

My idea is that the puppy has to be current on all the shots which means that it should have all the shots due to be done by 11 weeks. I also remember that my breeder told me not to let my puppy out before a certain age because it is more susceptible to getting infected. Thus, it is not about a fear that the dog is not going to be social or afraid because, most likely, it won't be since all of our dogs are tiny creatures not much larger than your puppy. It is more about making sure that the puppy is not contagious to others and not immuno-deficient. I know that I registered my dog for puppy classes when she was 14 weeks. At the same time, Anti-Cruelty asks that the dog be at least 8 weeks to 14 weeks to attend a puppy class. So, I suppose that your dog is eligible for their socialization. If I was you, I would either call the doctor or make sure that the dog is current on Distemper shot - this is the major one at his age. Rabbies is the second big one but he is OK not to have it until 4 months or 16 weeks of age. Hope it helps. Milena

OK, Fiona and Manya are in. Coby is a mybe. I am still waiting to get replies from: Kodak LuvBunni Luvyorkies Sexiixtc Muffinlvr If everybody from Chicago agrees to meet, our group will have 8 puppies, which makes it $ 19 per puppy for a private play date or $ 3 for a communal play date with other dogs, whatever people prefer. I might have another friend or two who have yorkies join us but it is not certain. It can help us bring down the cost. If we decide to get the private room, I want to get a final head count ASAP so that I can reserve our spot soon. If not, I suppose it does not matter when people inform me.

I am available this weekend but not the next one for the immediate future. I can also meet in the evenings on weekdays but agree that it is better on weekends. So far, there are only three of us willing to meet. So, we can do it but not exclusively as early as this weekend. How is Sunday for everybody?
