| Please Help! Andy is a very good puppy for the most part. We are still working on the potty training thing of course but he is only 10 weeks old. My problem is when I put him on his leash he acts as though he is instantly paralized. I even can drag him along and he still wont budge. He becomes a dead wait at the end of his leash. It really is funny to see but he still needs to stop! I don't want my puppy to get hurt and i don't know how to get him to walk. He will run around like a maniac in the apt but when he is ouside he lays down and wont move. |

| Try putting it on him inside to get used to the feel of a leash. This seems to me like a fairly normal reaction to a leash from a puppy. I would just let him loose through the house or[ where ever he spends his free time] w/ the leash on don't hold on to it.Call him to you and bribe him with a treat, play with him w/ it on.You get the idea,it is just something that he has to get used to, that is all, just like a collar if he wears one .Goog luck soon you will look back at this and giggle how your boy was a fraid of his leash.lol |

| Are you using a harness (not a collar)? You definitely want to use a harness so it doesn't damage your baby's trachea. Start by getting him used to it inside and just wait to him to walk around. He just needs to get used to it and like anything else, needs to learn the right way to do it!

| I do the inside thing and yes I use a harness. It just baffles me as to why he does this. He does not like walking outside for any reason. |

| Maybe it is because he is so young? I dunno, I'm definitely no expert but I thought at that age they are just learning to be away from mommy. I'm sure the more you take him out on the harness the more he will get used to it.

| Since your pup is so young, Bably Madeleine's advice is very good. Andy is much too young for a lead, and definitely dragging could injure him. You could carry him outside to get used to the grass but I wouldn't expect too much since most pups don't leave their momma's until 12 week or older. Good luck.

| He has been away from his mommy since he was six weeks. I got him 3 days before he turned 9 weeks old. He will be 11 weeks old sunday. So I know he is young but that shouldn't be the issue. |

| Kiwi did that when I first got her. She just froze and wouldn't move! It was funny but also frustrating. I didn't drag her or anything, but just took her out a couple times a day on the leash and she got used to it. Before long she didn't even care about it. It happened all of a sudden, one day she wasn't used to it and the next day she was fine.

| Maybe he is afraid outside right now. Get him used to the leash in the house first, and then when he gets used to it, take him outside for short periods of time. I had to take Jake out only for a few minutes, several times a day until he wasn't afraid anymore. Give him lots of reassurance and take treats. He will get used to it and will end up loving it outside. But, 10 weeks is very young. I'm sure he's just scared. Think about this: I read in one of my yorkie books that an average size person looks as tall as a 5-story building to a yorkie. So, think about how huge everything must look outside.

| the same thing happened with my little bella. she is my newest addition. she is now great with the leash. i made sure i let the leash be loose, then when she takes a little step i praise her hysterically. i think by walking her with my other yorkies helped too cuz she followed along. hope this helps! goodluck!

| Your baby may definitely be afraid of the outside. My Sunshine is a tiny little girl and at 3 1/2 years old, she is very afraid outside. She is fine in her own backyard, but if I take her out front or when we take her in the car, she is afraid. I mean, she is fine while in the car, but outside of the car, she doesn't want to be anywhere but in my arms. The noise of the cars scare her and I think everything looks huge to her. When we go on a trip, she will not go potty at rest stops, or even at the hotels grassy areas. We have tried parks, etc. She just panics when she gets put down. Thank God for potty pads when we go on trips. But there is light atthe end of the tunnel. Even though she is afraid, she will walk on the leash now. But it took a long time before she would do that and she still doesn't like it. She walks only because she wants to stay right by me.. (hoping to get picked up) Just be patient. Your baby may just be afraid of the BIG BIG world outside. After he gets used to having the leash on inside, try taking him outside in a place he is comfortable with, then gradually try bringing him out front where there is an even bigger world for him to explore. | We started Harley (now 14 wks) on his leash at 12 weeks and he did the same thing. On the second day we put the harness and leash on him and put him down on our front walk. My daughter walked ahead of us and put honey nut cheerios every 2 - 3 feet to encourage him along the way. As he progressed along, she spaced them further apart. We went to the end of the driveway and back to the house. After 2 "walks" with the cheerios, he had the hang of it! |
