| How weird and fishy is this I was reading the price rant thread and remembered I had wanted to share this about my puppy purchase with Bella, who I feel I got for a steal... or maybe not I have always bought my puppies locally from a decent looking breeder who had championship field bloodlines... hunting dogs. We started our search for a Boston terrier pup and a yorkie at the same time and weren't having any luck locally. The single pup I found sold out before I had a chance to get to look at her. The boston pups we found just didn't have the look I wanted, I had very specific markings I was wanting. I had researched the breed's online but hadn't found forums to know alot of what I learned after about buying online. I found nextdaypets.com and puppyfind.com and started my search. We weren't rushing into it but at the same time had no clue that we could have been buying from a puppy mill, I just assumed those dogs were at pet stores. So I found Chloe and we contacted the breeder and it felt right, she seemed decent so we bought her, we were then waiting on her papers. It took me a week to find Bella and it was the same type of situation where it seemed the person on the phone was honest and nice (I know my bad). This woman had only posted Bella so far because it was her first time listing on line and she got that one add up and her daughter ended up in labor and she had to go get her grandson and go to the hospital and all that fun stuff. I talked with her over a few days, she shared part of her experience with her daughter and grandson with me. She also listed a couple more pups in the meantime. Bella was shipped in and of no fault of the breeder her cage and her were so gross. she pooped all over herself and it was everywhere, along with smelly soft food with honey on it. Cleaned her up and fell in love ... ok so on to the paperwork... Chloes didn't show up when it was suppose to so my husband placed a call and with appoligies was told it would be out the next day. He did indeed receive it and it was a stellar example of what I would expect to see when buying a new puppy. The AKC paperwork of course along with a folder chocked full of information and pictures of the dam and sire. Beautiful.. I have no complaints. Then I ended up inquiring as to where Bella's paper work was, and was told it was being held up because some sort of DNA test needed to go through. Ok whatever, finally it showed. Here is the weird part. The name of the "breeder" on the paperwork is not the person who I had spoken with all these times, not even the same last name.. not even close. Is this weird? Fishy? Do you think I got her from a broker unbeknownst to me?

| Yes, that IS fishy...I would definitely question that. Can you call the breeder back? Not that it matters really now because you love her but you should know where your dog came from, and you should get what you paid/asked for as part of your end of the contract.

| Is it possible that the person you spoke to owns the father of the litter? I ran into a strange situation when looking for our Bella. I showed up at the house and the 2 puppies were in a small crate. They were 9 weeks old and not very clean and very shaky. I didn't get a good feeling. I then asked to see the mom and the lady said that the mom is owned by someone else and they he had brought the pups over (she owned the dad). It was just really strange and I didn't end up buying a puppy from her, I had a feeling the puppies were from a mill situation. It made me really sad, I was shocked to see 9 week old puppies that stank and shook so much. I won't buy a puppy unless I can see the mom because you can learn a lot from the mom as far as temperament in concerned. When we left the house my son reminded me that we had been to this house 4 years earlier when looking for a Yorkie and we had the same feeling back then. The people we bought Bella from had the mom and dad, they had about 12 Yorkies that all lived in the house with them and they were all really happy, friendly dogs and we drove away feeling really good about it. I wouldn't worry too much over it, you've got your baby and you love her and that's all that matters.

| You may or may not have been fooled. The important thing is are they healthy? If so I wouldn't worry. You have your papers and DNA testing is a good thing. Did you get the DNA papers?

| Thats the same thing with Meka... The name listed on the AKC papers was different than that of the woman who sold her to me. But, I did months and months of research to find a good breeder, and I trust 200% that my breeder was legit. To my understanding, she owns the male and another person owned the female....

| My story is odd too. I was looking for a Yorkie and there was an ad in the paper and I called the number and it was a lady in Mississippi (about 100 miles from me) We talked and I told her what I was looking for etc. She was such a nice person on the phone I felt she would be a good breeder to buy from. I didn't have enough money to purchase a dog but was beginning to look. We talked a couple more times and then on a Saturday she called me and told me to come get my puppy. I told her I was not financially ready to buy a dog yet and she said never mind about the money. I went down that Sunday and ended up with her giving me a puppy. She said I could send her the money but if it was a hardship to never mind she was just glad to find him a good home. She had 4 puppies and let me pick the one I wanted. I kept saying that she didn't know me and she said she felt she did and I brought my puppy home. He had ear mites and a slight cough but the vet treated both those things and pronounced him very healthy. He really is very healthy and so playful and happy. I have tried to call her since to ask her a few questions and she hasn't returned my calls. That was 2 months ago. I have sent her some money but I just think this whole thing is odd. |
