| Loosing a dream dog I got my yorkie at 6 weeks. I've been raised around dogs my whole life and all have been little dogs. I wanted so much for this dog. My husband hated the idea of spending that kind of money on a puppy. He did anyways cause he knew what it meant to me. ANd now not even having him 2 weeks I've lost him. He died early this morning after spending two days at the vets office. I don't know what to do. He was my baby. Now my husband is saying I can never have another one cause yorkies are just going to die anyways. The vet said they weren't sure exactly what was wrong. He jusat kept having seizures and wouldn't go to the bathroom regularily. ANd he was throwing up. He ate and drank water he just seemed unaturally quiet since we first got him. Everyone kept telling me it was just because he was a puppy. But puppys are supposed to play and be a little active not sleep ALL the time. I thought for one brief moment I had gotten my dream dog. The one I've been wanting since I was a little girl. |

| was he hypoglycemic? if he was real little or stressed about the new home and surroundings they can get low sugar, this causes them to be very lazy, throw up, not eat. we also recommend on here nutrical its a supplement that helps this. sorry for your loss also 6 weeks is way way too young |

1. First off, 6 weeks is too young to get a puppy. Trust me. If you have a "next time", wait until 12 weeks or so when they are more robust. 2. Yorkies ARE a fragile breed...as you can tell by my name, I've lost one too. The best you can do is get one that's a little older so it can fight infections better and you have more time. 3. Have you talked to the breeder at all?? If the breeder was a really nice one, he/she may assist...

| The guy was an a** he said there was nothing wrong he demanded an autopsy before he would help and my husband buried him right after he died. AN dI keep hearing 6 weeks is too young to get them but I always got most my pups at 6 to 8 weeks old growing. We had a tendency to buy pomeranians so I didn't know at the time that was too young Last edited by mayfateleadyou; 10-01-2007 at 06:39 AM. |

As for the breeder...well it's his right to ask for an autopsy I suppose...certain breeders would probably be more sympathetic but it sounds as if he isn't.... You could always exhume him... (Edit: He only died this morning...so exhuming him would work if you really want to go through with trying to get your money back.) Does anybody know the cost of an autopsy?

| Besides what everyone else posted(6 weeks was too young to be away from it's mom for such a small type dog)....but excuse my french...you're husband is a jerk! Of course every yorkie will die, so will every human being. It's not the norm that a pet dies in that short of an amount of time but it does happen. I've had dogs that lived 15 years and no matter how long they live, it's horrible when they do die. I would definately have a talk with hubby and explain to him how cruel he's being. You don't stop loving because life is short. That's just even more of a reason to get a new pet and give it all the love you can.

| I would get a new one but I can't afford it. I had waited years to get this one and now I'm screwed. And yes my husband is being difficult about it and for the most part I think its because he is afraid I'll beg for another one. |

YT 2000 Club Member | I am so sorry for your loss! How sad. 6 weeks is very young , the breeder was wrong to let it go at such a young age! Did you have a health guarantee contract? When did he die? I would have the autopsy only is you had a health contract that said they would replace the dog or money. Again I am so sorry to hear this sad news. |

| actually I got the puppy in alabama where we live part time. He was a breeder out in fayette and had several other breeds too and no I didn't get a health contract or anything except a 24 hr process. Thats where I feel stupid. I have never had a young dog die like that. I thought I had researched enough but obviously I was wrong. I didn't want a dog to breed or make money I just wanted a dream pet. I wanted a loving loyal companion for when my husband was away. |

| Poor little puppy. Six weeks was much to early to be taken away from her mommy. I am sorry the puppy did not even stand a chance. That breeder should be shot. I am so sorry you lost your Yorkie. It's not your fault it's the breeder's. Yet, you were left with the broken heart. Very sad all the way around. |
