| Timid and Shy around people? Diesel is 2 and I really thought that by now he would have grown out of this stage. He is STILL very shy and scared around people he doesn't know. He doesn't bite never has... doesn't even growl. He just shakes and will hide or try to hide from people. Kids love him and he seems to warm up quicker to the little ones. We went back home for a reunion and this little 3 year old just LOVED Diesel. He ran from everyone and was sitting in my lap. He wouldn't go to anyone but they came to him. So this little girl was always chasing me down. lol By the end of the day she had rubbed Diesel so much that he was getting use to her. He even licked her on the nose! It was the cutest thing. At home he is a different dog. Does anyone have any ideas on how to break him of this? Michelle

| lacey shakes when we bring her to partys or where there are alot of people, i have found that if i let her walk into the situations and look around and get to know things are ok she does better. when i carry her in she shakes and i feel bad and comfort her i think i was making it worse. oops lol.

| I think your right. If you just let them socialize themselves to the new environment I think they feel a lot better.

| Well when we went to our family reunion I let him run. He had the freedom to go roam all over the place. We were on a farm. He stuck right by me the entire time. I feel like it is something I have done. Since he was little he has gone with me everywhere. Now he LOVES seeing other dogs. LOL It is just people. When he walks and sees someone else coming he turns as if to run. SOMETIMES when people squat down to see him and as long as they don't approach him he will go sniff around. He may relax around them but not to the point of letting them anywhere near him. He will come running over to me and jump up on my leg so that I will pick him up. Like I said at home he loves to play. He and our german shepherd are buds and they love to play with each other. I have noticed one thing... When it is just me at home they don't play as much. When EVERYONE is home they are wide open. I guess they just miss everyone. I will try and let him walk into more situations. Maybe then he will be more at ease.

| Tatum can be like that at times. When we went to the Houston meet-up this summer, she was a snob! At home she's a wild woman playing with Stormie (our Aust Shep) and the cats. I think part of her problem there was that she is just not used to small dogs. She plays with Stormie and my hubby's uncle's dog (they live next door). She's a border collie. Tatum just doesn't know how to react to small dogs. I've seen her act like that at the baseball fields too when she's encountered another small dog. Now, as for people...... she loves most all people but with kids she has to feel them out first. I have two very rambunctious nephews that make her nervous because everything is done at a run. Once they sit and let her come to them, all's fine. We're just such a laid back family that this is what she's gotten used to. Your pup may just have to feel people out and it just may take her more time to warm to people. It's okay..... they're just like people.... we all have our own personalities.

| sometimes i think its just who they are and changing it can be hard, my other dog is more of a home dog she gets to stressed out going to gatherings, but i think her problem is because she had a really rough start she had cancer at 13 weeks so going out ment going to the vet for quite a few months and i dont think she will ever get over that dreded feeling so we leave her home when we go to places that might upset her to much.
