| Questions for those of you with MORE than one yorkie.. I REALLY want a playmate for Esme. As of now, my husband is not convinced... so I am working on it. Esme will be 8 months in a few weeks. How old was your first yorkie when you brought the 2nd (or third...) one into your family? How did your older yorkie adjust?? Did he/she have a difficult time getting used to having a new baby in the house? Any cons for having more than one. I can think of a million pros, but no cons. I'm sure there have to be some?? Maybe? Thanks! Any advice you can provide me would be GREATLY appreciated. Also, if you can think of a SURE way for me to convinve my hubby, that would be good too.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | In my case....it was the best decision and I have never regretted it - I was hesitant about another cause I LOVED Chanel so much I didn't want to distract from her - but we got Cheri when she was 2 ...10 months ago - and they have a total BLAST together Chanel did her huge pout faces for the first month and got her little nose all bent out of shape every time I kissed Cheri - but I would just kiss Chanel MORE and eventually she stop looking so devestated...She STILL pouts if I have Cheri on my lap but she's smart enough to join her and I get double the loving. They play together like crazy - If he has any doubts - see if he'll watch the videos of my girls - http://jusspress.com/red98vett lol...there's no doubt how much fun 2 have together in those ! I know not all yorkies welcome a new one - but from what I read the majority of people are so happy they got their baby a buddy.... for the laugh - I posted a pic of Chanel with her POUT FACE - I was kissing on Cheri when my hubby took that picture last year - lol...it still makes me laugh seeing it ...When you get a new baby - that is called "The Look"

| Hi, I can't really think of anything negative.I have 3,1male and 2female a month after. My male was almost 4mths when I got the girls. They just adjusted well together. When we only had 1 he would whine cry when we left him at home,I think he was lonely. But now he has someone to play with so he doesn't mind if we're not there.I think its great,if I'm busy he has the girls to keep him occupied. They get along better than I thought. You can tell your hubby that Esme's is lonely when you leave her home and another one will keep her company and she won't be lonely. Also tell him that if she has a playmate than you have more time to pay attention to him Hope that helps, let us know if you can convince him.....

| We got Griffin when Bentley was 9 months old and we are very happy with our decision. They love each other and have a great time together. It is also less work for us as we used to have to run around the house all of the time and play chase with Bentley and now he and Griffin do it together instead. Bentley made it very clear to us that he wanted a playmate. He always got so excited and loved to play with other dogs. He also hated to be left alone. It did take about a week for him to adjust to his new brother (and having to share all of the attention), but now everything is great and we wouldn't have it any other way. A few cons are: it's harder to take two dogs for a walk or to a store; it's harder to monitor how much food they eat and make sure one doesn't eat double what he should and the other not eat enough. You have to make sure they both get the attention they need (Bentley also has a good pout face). It does cost a little more money (but that is partly my fault as I buy two of every cute t-shirt I find). Keep in mind the pros greatly outweigh the cons. I can't help you with the hubby issue. My husband didn't want to get the first dog, but he fell in love with Bentley so fast and when I mentioned getting the second he responded "sounds good to me". Good luck |

| I got Hallie when Simon was 10 months old however she was 2. I do NOT regret it but........it has not been an easy adventure for me or them. Since Hallie was so scared, abused, negloected, malnourished I felt at times I was not giving Simon enough attention and now when I love on Simon Hallie gets jealous although it is getting better. I have also had to really buckle down on retraining/training them together. I still struggle with the attention issue and make sure I give them equal snuggle time and sometimes take one on a "day with mommy" trip while the other is at daycare playing. I love them the same and get so happy when I see them playing or sleeping together. I am also more relieved when I have to go somewhere since I know they are together and keeping each other company. I know my case is different since they are both rescues but I would do it again in a second! |

| I got Gibson when Roxy was three months old. I felt so guilty leaving her alone all day! This was the best decision, they play all day long and I dont feel so guilty. The only negative has been that Gibson is slow in the pp pad training and Roxy now is starting to not go where she is supposed to because Gibson doesnt, so I guess she feels she doesnt have to either! |

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | When Magic was about four months old...we started to get the feeling that she was bored and needed a playmate to have when we couldn't be around...so we quickly decided that another Yorkie would be awesome...seen then it has been great!!! Magic had her struggles at first, at the time she was fully potty trained, but once we got Sailor, she went backwards for a couple of weeks to get attention, but once she realized that Sailor was not going anywhere, she quickly adjusted and became to really interact with Sailor...now they are unseparatable...they love to play together and hang out with one another...I would defintely tell you that getting a playmate was the best decision we ever made...and I know Magic thanks us for it...now we have two wonderful little girls!!!

| We were adviced that if we got number 2 when the first was fully trained, the first would help train the new one. So we waited until Kali was one year old and we had gotten rid of all her bad habits. And she really does help in the training of the new one. Oh and she does have that pouty face as well. And if I pick up Mare (the small one) to kiss and hug, Kali will run and get a toy and play with it at my feet to get Mares attention and make her interested in her instead of me. Sneaky bastard! hehe

I don't think there are too many cons of having more than one Yorkie. The only one I can think of is that your first Yorkie might teach the new upup some of it's bad habits. Riley has a tendency to put his two front feet in his litter box and go potty. He thinks he is in the box, but he isn't. TJ has seen him do this and he has started to do this too. So, they teach each other things, but sometimes the things are good. So that con can also be a pro depending on what they are teaching each other. LOL. Another con would be jealousy, and it can be hard to deal with, but you might just want to let your husband bond at first with the new puppy so that your current Yorkie won't get extremely jealous, which he might not be in the first place because all Yorkies are different. To convince your husband: Having two Yorkies is great because they entertain eachother when you are too tired to play fetch or other games. They will play with each other when you are too busy (cooking, cleaning, etc.) or you are not home. Also, two Yorkies is definitely double the love, hugs, and kisses! I would never go back to having just one Yorkie. I just wouldn't be able to do it. Having two is a blessing! | |

| One major con in my opinion and it's not a permanent one. When I got my first Yorkie he was 8 weeks old. The next month I got an older female. All the fun I had with my baby went out the window because I bought HIM a new toy. She is still his favorite toy and he's 14 mos now. Ah, well, I have a new baby who I think I was better able to adapt to. Me not them, I had the problem but it's all better now(at least that one is fixed, haha). |

| We got Chanel when Chelsey was 5 months old, the first 10 days Chelsey's nose was out of joint, she didnt like her little sister at all - i felt really guilty and spoiled Chelsey even more, now they are the greatest friends and do everything together and cant miss each other, they have very different personalities which is nice, it keeps us occupied - they are such fun!!

| Thanks for the replies guys! I asked my husband again last night and he said: "You don't love Esme enough so you want to get another one!" He just doesn't get it! I tried to explain that because I love Esme so much I want her to be happy and his response was: "Having another yorkie is not going to make her happy, it's going to make her jealous!" He is SOOO hard headed.... I am going to read him these responses and show him some of Chanel and Cheri's videos.. Then I am going to give the topic a rest.. for a little while. Our anniversary is November, Christmas is December and my birthday is in January. I'm going to start the real begging then!
