We got Griffin when Bentley was 9 months old and we are very happy with our decision. They love each other and have a great time together. It is also less work for us as we used to have to run around the house all of the time and play chase with Bentley and now he and Griffin do it together instead. Bentley made it very clear to us that he wanted a playmate. He always got so excited and loved to play with other dogs. He also hated to be left alone. It did take about a week for him to adjust to his new brother (and having to share all of the attention), but now everything is great and we wouldn't have it any other way.
A few cons are: it's harder to take two dogs for a walk or to a store; it's harder to monitor how much food they eat and make sure one doesn't eat double what he should and the other not eat enough. You have to make sure they both get the attention they need (Bentley also has a good pout face). It does cost a little more money (but that is partly my fault as I buy two of every cute t-shirt I find). Keep in mind the pros greatly outweigh the cons.
I can't help you with the hubby issue. My husband didn't want to get the first dog, but he fell in love with Bentley so fast and when I mentioned getting the second he responded "sounds good to me". Good luck
