|
What you have described is hobby breeders. i really don't see how anyone just "pops' out babies. My girls have one litter a year. and i think that is the way most breeders, at least the good ones, do it. i have to retire my girls next year and I swear I hate to do it. They are gorgeous and throw such pretty, nice kids but for the sake of my girls, I have to. I am also going to spay them at the time they are retired so they won't fall into somee bad breeders hands that will breedd them to death.
You don't keep your girls as just pets when they retire? |

|
I keep them with me, that is unless I know of someone close by that would provide them individual attention.......it depends on the person and the circumstances. Sometimes, placing them in the best homes to provide love to someone in need, is better for both the new owner and the dog.

|

thank you Mardelin, it is just so hard for people to understand that breeders just can't keep them all and as you said, it is sometimes in the best interest of the girl. QUOTE] Hey, You can send one of those pretty girls my way. Actually my mom has a friend that breeds awesome german shepherds. The background they came from is amazing. She has had to let a few go to homes after she retires them. I know it is not easy for her to do, but I also know you can't breed forever and sometimes there is no choice but to let them go. I do not wish a discission like that on anyone. After all they are precious to the owner/breeder.

yes they are precious. At least mine are. They live in my house underfoot and are part of our famuily. thank you for the comment on my girls but if you take one, you have to take both. They have never since birth been separated. They are littermates.

Heck, I would take three and then some if I could However, I think Hubby might wonder if I was still sane. Even if I had both those girls, that would make 3 Yorkie's, 1 black Lab, 1 Golden Retriever, 1 very opinionated cat, 2 guinea pigs (although one looks like a small groundhog), 1 hamster (inherited from my sister), and 7 fancy goldfish All inside. That would be quite the zoo. I would have no place left to live. My house has only one bedroom and one closet. It is small but the backyard is big and fenced in. However, my dogs are only out to play with us or potty. I never leave Winstin out and the big girls prefer to be in with us. We do have 7 acres of land we are going to build on, we would have to speed up the process. Then if I moved there, I would be adding a horse to the mix.

Again this is my opinion of what a BYB is and no one has to gree with it! And also, if your dogs looks like the breed alot but is not a 'fine' specimen of the breed then i believe your are a byb (this is to anyone, not a specific person and again MY OPINION) because your not helping the breed at all. What the point in making more pets looking less like the breed when your suppose to want to improve the breed. And sometimes breeders say they are lucky to even break even (non-show breeders) when in truth they making a profit and won't even say so. I mean just say so. We know it's true for some and we won't think of you any different (atleast not me). I know you have to go through a long process when breeding but i believe sometimes you can make a big profit when dealing with a breed like the Yorkshire Terrier and that is the reason why some start to breed their pet in the first place. I know I opened up a can of worms but again it's my opinion and please don't think i'm talking about one person!

| Kansas also has laws on how many litters you can have before having to obtain a license. The following is just my observations/opinions: Puppy mills usually sell their dogs to brokers. They get less money this way, but all of the puppies are gone by 8 weeks of age for a guaranteed price. The ones that they have after 8 weeks are the ones that the brokers would not take for some reason (sick, hernias, other problems) BYB sell their dogs to the new owners, but don't care where they go. If you have the money you get a dog. If the breeder does not ask you any questions about your household and for references then you need to be thinking BYB |
