| a ??? for those with two males - or more! is it hard raising them?? do they try to dominate each other?? i wanted to get some honest opinions on this - the lady that i posted about that i was going to get the free yorkie from has only boys left which was fine with me - i knew all the girls would go first of course. not my husband! he told his brother that "WE" did not want another boy because it would be a big problem raising two boys together. now this is certainly true with his pit bulls that he breeds but that is a whole different breed of dog. BUT i thought i had better check into this first. for those that have at least a couple of boys - are they from the same litter and does that make a big difference? TIA

YT 1000 Club Member | Okay so far the 2 boys I have are from the same litter, they love to play and they tend to work out who is higher ranking in the pack than the other. I don't see a dominance thing here at all. I think it all depends on the temperament of the dogs. This is just my observation of my two boys. |

| My Fighting Boys I got a male Yorkie "Kasey" last year and everything was just fine with him & my other male Yorkie, however in April of this year we got a male Shih-Tzu, "Petey" At first everything was fine with them, a few months ago they started to fight like crazy. I heard neutering would help but it did nothing in this case. Now they can't be around each other at all without fighting. I got crates for both of them & they take turns having free time. My husband had said something about rehoming "Petey" because everything was fine until he came into our home but I just cannot do it. I love him too much. The arrangement we have now works good. I couldn't stand to let one of my babies go to another home. "Kasey" loves my other male Yorkie "Pumpkin" but for some reason him & Petey just hate each other. Pam |

| We have 2 boys. They are brothers. They both know who the leader is.(me) We have not had any problems. They will play, wrestle and occasionally have a spat but nothing out of the ordinary. I talked to many people that have 2-3 boys. All I heard was positive. I say go for it.

| males I find neutered males do well together..never had anyone ask to return neutered boys. I have had several groups of intact males who got along very well, even with females in season, scenting the air...but I have had fighters and nothing worked except keeping them in different parts of the house. I have a friend with FIVE neutered males, she got 3 from me and they get along very well... If you have an adult male and bring in another adult, often they do not adjust well and fight or mark...but most males will accept a puppy..I find neutered males have few issues and love everyone. The key is early neutering..6 months. Last edited by YorkieRose; 09-18-2007 at 03:24 PM. |

| I have two males from different litters and they get along fine. I love little boys their so sweet. I agree with your husband on male pit bulls. There definetly is a dominance issue with them.

| Chip was originally my sister's dog, and she has a 14 y/o neutered male (Zippy). Zippy was never really a dominant type of dog, he has had extended stay dog "visitors" in the past. So Zippy was used to being around other dogs that actually dominated over him, not humping or mounting but more pushing him aside to get out the door or to food first. Chip is 2 y/o and also neutered, not a dominant personality, he pretty much settled into his place there knowing that Zippy was #1. Zippy knows he is #1 to my sister, and was not threatened by Chip, also I think he is too old to care or do anything about it. When Chip came to live with me he also realized that my cat (Graycie) was #1, and she constantly reminds him of that. It all depends on the personalities and temperment of the dogs, and how well they are socialized. |

| I have 4 males and 1 female. All were neutered and spayed within the last 2 months. They range in age from 7 mos. to 3 yrs. I waited too long to neuter! They all know JPop is dominate, but the 11 mo. old, TJ, picks fights with our newest stray, Radar, who is about 9 mos. Radar is very mild, layed back, and knows his place is pretty much the bottom of the pole. But TJ is so mean to him! He latches on to his tail, hubby says TJ is jealous because he doesn't have one, or his ears and just holds on while poor radar is screaming! DH has twice had to pry his jaws open to get him to let go. I really don't know how to handle this situation, and have given thought to rehoming TJ. But, I know I can't do that; he snuggles up to me every night under the covers. But I can't have him being so mean to Radar either. Radar is the only one he picks on. If anyone has advice for me, I'm all ears. Good luck in your decision. My only advise is, as someone else said, neuter early.

| thanks everyone! i told him it could work out fine and that i am sure other people have a couple of males or more but he thinks it would be different if they were from the same litter! yes i really wanted to get another yorkie - a girl - but a boy that was free was fine with me,too. if his brother lived here or closer to us i would have gone to get him myself but he lives in alabama and i have no clue how to get there! i guess i will just have to do as i had planned all along and wait until next year when the lady i bought romeo from has another litter. those boys are not going to last long being FREE.

| I have two males...first one is 2 1/2 yrs. and the second is 8 months....Different breeders.....I was a little concerned on the dominance issue also but they figured it out real quick... The older one is smaller but he is boss, the younger one knows his place and they know how to work with it...it's interesting watching their body language and how they just know the pecking order they're in....sometimes it's funny to watch....they have done this without fighting......
