Chip was originally my sister's dog, and she has a 14 y/o neutered male (Zippy). Zippy was never really a dominant type of dog, he has had extended stay dog "visitors" in the past. So Zippy was used to being around other dogs that actually dominated over him, not humping or mounting but more pushing him aside to get out the door or to food first. Chip is 2 y/o and also neutered, not a dominant personality, he pretty much settled into his place there knowing that Zippy was #1. Zippy knows he is #1 to my sister, and was not threatened by Chip, also I think he is too old to care or do anything about it. When Chip came to live with me he also realized that my cat (Graycie) was #1, and she constantly reminds him of that. It all depends on the personalities and temperment of the dogs, and how well they are socialized.
