When he starts to bite or nibble on toes or fingers, put a toy in his mouth...that way it redirects the play biting to a positive thing - the toy. He'll learn that biting you is not acceptable and will start chewing on toys instead

This period between 8 weeks and 12 weeks is very important in his development. He will need alot more than food, water, and a place to sleep, and if you don't give him all the love and gentle guidance he needs you will cheat him and yourself. Lighten up and enjoy this wonderful little fellow, raising a yorkie is sometimes challinging, and always rewarding.
I'm sorry if I jumped to conclusions. I am very happy for you and your family, a yorkie is a wonderful addition to have. He will take a little time to settle in though. If you give him too much room to roam at first,he will be harder to potty train, he really doesn't need two rooms. A yorkie is a tiny dog, and a puppy needs a little more confinement. I hope you can find someone to check on him sometime during the day at first, it would be nice for him tohave a little distraction too. You can turn on a tv or radio so he will not feel so all alone. Congratulations on your new son!

I just wanted to say congratulations on your new puppy! I do not have my puppy yet, so I really can't tell you from experience how to train a new puppy. I have read all the books I can get my hands on just to learn what lies ahead for when Jeter comes home.

Maybe you could check out a few books from the library on training a puppy, or a few Yorkie books." Yokies for Dummies" is actually a good informative book and so is "Puppies for Dummies." They have a lot of other books you could check into, just do a Yorkie search and check out a few! If you find a few things you think you might want to try then try what feels right for you.

Good luck with your new Puppy and post a few pictures of the little one!!

Congrats on your puppy! We got Lily around 8 weeks old and by 12 weeks she was completely potty trained! It took a lot of work and patience but it is possible. When she started biting we would firmly say "No Bite" and give her something that she could chew on. Goodluck with everything and have fun with your new addition!

Congratulations on your new puppy. We'd love to see pictures . As for some advice, I'd suggest sticking to pee pads if you plan to leave your Yorkie for more than a couple hours at a time. Even adult, they have small bladders and can't hold as long as bogger dogs do. My dog is almost 16 months old and goes on the pads as I work and have to leave him at house for the day. Leaving him too much space won't help in potty training, they do better if confined to a smaller space (but not the crate for the whole day) - maybe xpen? It would be good if someone can check on him during the day and make sure he eats, 7 hours is long for such a young pup.

Congratulations on your puppy I agree with blondefava about the pee pee pads. If my 2 are left alone for any length of time alone, I make sure there is a pad in the living room and at the end of my hallway.

When I first started this I used this spray that attracts the puppy to the spot where you want it to "go". I think you can get it pretty much anywhere.

Also, please post pics of your little guy.

Congratulations on your new pup. It does take some time to train them, and yes you need those pee pads. They also have something that smells like urine that you can put on them to help him get it. It took me six months to house break Penny, so take a deep breath and hang in there.

thank you everyone, I am glad the original post was all cleared up now, man we love this guy, he was never alone for 7 hrs, the parents are always playing with him, he seems to like my mom more after today, he liked me more yesterday when i was holding him in my lap for an hour. My older brother who works will buy it some toys and will most likely play with him at night, so everything is covered, man is he going to get spoiled with toys.

Mornings when i am in University: Parents
When I am home: Me + Parents
Night: Brother

Pictures will come very soon

And training is harder then I thought, I finally mastered the way of saying no, not too loud to scare it not to soft, and he really does stop whatever he is doing.

Progress: he peed on the same spot 3 times on one corner of the room....we left the paper on the opposite side but he doesn't use him, so we decided to do what HE likes so now the paper is over where he peed 3 times, he peed again on that sheet so I am happy!

I am facing this trouble right now, need a answer quick.

I have learned to not play with him right when i get home and when he is barking or whining, problem is, he doesn't stop.

I was just playing with him 5 minutes ago but i saw him pee on the floors, I decided to move him back into his smaller room with the crate, toys and newspaper so he can pee and I can play with him after. He starting barking - I know i shouldn't go back if he is but he didn't do anything wrong, I just want him to pee, but he is way to busy barking right now.

Should i go back and play with him? He seems to have paused the barking for like 10 seconds then goes again. Those puppy eyes are adorable and makes me melt.

For those who was wondering about the rooms it is definately puppy safe, there is nothing there, literally.

the smaller room which is about 3/4 size of the larger is where i keep his stuff, I open the doors to the larger room when I am not home to let him roam around, or is the smaller one large enough? I mean the smaller room is the size of MY room the larger one is like 3/4 size of my whole house, thats big.

Thanks sorry for going on and on

Bella is only 12 weeks, so we aren't experts, but I will tell you that we keep Bella in a bathroom when we aren't home and at night time. She has her crate, food/water, her pee-pee pad and toys. There isn't anything in there she can damage, so I feel comfortable that she is safe and she seems happy with her accommodations.

We are still working on the potty training too. She does really well when she is in her area (night time and when we are gone), but if we are home and she is out playing with all of us........well, she has some accidents! Our little sweet pea is working hard on it, though!

Don't forget to post some pictures when you can!

Do you have pictures? I would love to see them. Have you named your puppy or did I miss it in an earlier post?
