| Wow...what a day! My little Riley had his first trip to Petco....wasn't very thrilled with the ride...but did ok once we got there..until we got him fitted with a harnes collar....but he is getting used to it...he hit the pad today which is a huge step! He is napping with his daddy.. One thing that worries me and maybe its because he is so little (10 weeks) he cries whenever I leave his sight. Even when he is with his daddy...my husband. After about 5 minutes he quiets down...I am with him all this week before I have to go back to work and I need to get him used to being in his xpen. Any suggestions? I will have his crate, puppy pads and food and water in there...and he will only be home for 4-4 1/2 hours a day...I want this to be a good transition for him... I am pooped! Its alot of work but so much fun! He has met my sister and her son and my husbands sister and mom....and he is still kind of scared of other people...I guess this is normal...? |

| Maybe start leaving him alone for a half an hour at a time, so that it's not such a big shock to him when you go.

| First off Congratulations on your new baby I went through the same thing with my lil one when I first got her, she was also 10 weeks old....I took her with me to work for the first two weeks, but the first day I had to leave her home in her xpen was the worse for me, I was soooooo worried about leaving her home alone.....So, I thought I would try getting her use to her xpen in the kitchen during the day while I was still at home....well she would cry like crazy...in checking on these boards I was told that as long as she was able to see/hear me she would carry on with her crying........once I left the room she would quiet down after about 5-10 min...I went back to work and had a neighbor who came by and listened at the front door for her whinning/crying or screaming and she was to give me a call at work if she was making any noise....well luckily I never received a call and my neighbor told me that she was quiet during the entire day...She is now 7 mths old and is still in her xpen during the day in the kitchen during the week, weekends and evenings she has the full run of the downstairs/back patio.......I have thought about giving her full run of the kitchen with baby gates up to confine her, but she is in that wonderful chewing stage and is enjoying chewing everything/anything she can get her lil mouth on... Sooooo, putting the full run of the kitchen on the back burner for now to save my baseboards/cabinets ... hehehe...Hope this helps...

| Thank you for your responses Our puppy has gotten a little more on the chewing and we had been told by our trainer that this stuff called bitter apple was the best stuff to use. So tonight we tried it...he kept grabbing the corner of his puppy pad and pulling it up to play with it so we sprayed it and he HATED it...LOL...he shook his head as if to say YUCK! He hasn't done it again...it is the best stuff since sliced bread! |
