Dead Asleep? I've only had my yorkie for a day now, but im just a little curious... i have been around plenty of other yorkies and they dont seem to sleep as DEEPLY as my toby does...... I swear NOTHING will wake him up, hes dead to the world..... is this normal behavior (i know its his first day and hes overwhelmed, but still...... I've never seen a dog play dead so well....... i even got up every ten minuits or so to check if he was still BREATHING )

Yes, when my Yoda was a baby, his Mom would wake up every 15 minutes to check up on him. Yoda was a deep sleeper then, lay as still as a rock, and we would have to see if his little belly moved up and down or not to see if he was breathing. Now though, he seems to be a lighter sleeper, and if his eyes are closed and we rub his stomach or bother him, he'll peep one eye open to look at us and such. So yes, orinskye, just make sure they can still breathe if they are covered up in a blanket or anything.

Yep.......... Mia is still like that @ 4 months old. Our other yorkie, Muffy, sure isn't. Mia is such a sweet dog and totally different than Muffy. One day, I couldn't find Mia, and kept calling her name, went everywhere looking for her, and 20 minutes later, found her curled up in a corner sound to sleep. I guess all my yelling couldn't wake her. lol

Yes, Snoodles is like that and she is 11 months old now. She goes into this deep sleep, and you can pick her up like a wet noodle. I think when they play they play hard, and really sleep hard. HOWEVER, if I pick up a sissors or nail clipper, she will jump up and jump off my lap in a second. I should have called her Foxy! Pat

hehehe, that funny, I just to do the samething to chester when he was small. I would slowly walk up to him check to see if he was breathing... cause he was just kocked out. Now anything will wake him up. Now if he hard a noise and we are sitting next to him he will just open one eye to check...but if we are not there oh boy there goes the barking... Enjoy it while it last. They are so cute and quite when they are puppies now he is just cute.

Hi For crate training if you want to get a good sleep. Bring the creat in the the room with you at night right beside your bed. That way he will know you are there. And if he does start to make noise tap the crate on top. It will take a while for him to get used to it, but it works. eventually if you do not allow him in your bed you can graduly take him back to the spot you want him to sleep in.. but that will take a while. When they are puppies they want to be near you at all time. In the day time take him outside 15 - 20 min everytime you feed him on a leash to the spot you want him to go. And when he gose praise him and give treats . There are alot of good discussion on crate training here. So take a look. have fun

I put Snoodles in the crate for bedtime or when we have to leave and she can't come with me. I was going outside at 2 in the morning, at 4 in the morning and at 6 in the morning. Nothing I liked better than being in my nightgown in the middle of the night yelling GO Potty! Finally I told the vet I was exhausted. He said Oh! cover her crate at night with a blanket or something. It Worked Like a Dream. She never cried or whined since I started doing that. AND I can turn on the light in my room when I have to go potty myself and it doesn't disturb her. In the morning she will whine, but I get dressed and make my bed before I let her out. It has been a God send to me. As for putting him in, Just do it! Mine still wants to be by me, but the minute she is in, she lays down and goes to sleep. Try It You Will Like It! Pat

thanks pat for the info...... if it works i MIGHT get some rest tonight before finals ... i played light music for my golden, do you think that will work this time?........... oh wait, with the golden i played music and slept on the kitchen floor for a month, ok...... nevermind, no kitchen floors for me with my form of arthritis ..... i really hope this works hes really driving me up the wall with his nighttime antiks........ i like the more successful trainability with the puppies rather than getting an untrained adult from the pound or rescue,,,, but i sure dont like the sleepless nights of teh puppystage especially with math finals and such ..... oh well, i look at him in the morning and i just cant be mad at him, hes such a booger, he totally knows how cute he is.......... cant help but to love him i guess

| Same with Bradley he use to sleep like a log, now if you even move he gets up and follows me. LOL I know about the kitchen floor thing, I slept on the backroom floor for 2 weeks after we got Bradley but we were keeping him in the backroom to get use to where his potty pad was and food. During the day we would let him run around the house but at night he was in the backroom with me.
