I'm glad your baby is ok! I think that vet tech should be fired... the Vet left her in charge and she could have caused your baby to die. I would definitely have them reimburse you..

I am worried about the future, because if nothing else, I will want to have her teeth cleaned. She does have mild hydrocephalus which could have been part of the cause but I am also going to have some tests run including a bile acid test to determine what else could have gone wrong. I was worried about her waking up. I never thought to worry about a bad reaction afterwards.

Did Dixie have any reaction to her puppy vaccinations? My Zoey did, so I am afraid that she is going to react to anesthetic...

I'm so glad she's ok! And she has a smart mommy who trusts her instincts!

When you say vet tech - is this someone who is actually educationally trained/certified? Or is this someone just hired & trained in the vet office to help? I think there is a big difference there.

I hope you ask for reimbursement for all these expenses. How awful if this is a vet you've liked & trusted.

She actually went to school to become a vet tech. Which is why I am confused as to whether or not this is a decision that a vet tech can make.

Although its worth mentioning that some vets who ask for dogs to stay overnight do not even have anyone there overnight which IMO is worse than them being at home because at least you can watch them. So I say definatly check if there is going to be anyone there

My vet has techs 24/7 and a special room for the pups who have just been neutered ... and a vet is always on call.

My vet also makes house calls ... but this does not come cheap (of course) ....

I am glad Dixie is okay ... quite a scare ....

I know exactly how you feel. I didn't have my Chihuahua spayed till she was 10 years old, and luckly I did because she was on the verge of having some very serious problems that could have killed her. The Vet. said that her uterus actually fell apart in her hand, and if I had waited a little longer before bringing her in, she could have died. I don't mess around anymore with that. As long as they are young and healthy without any medical issues, it may be best to spay them. Just find a really good Vet.

Yes, I agree. I definitely think that there are more pros than cons when it comes to spaying and I will always spay or neuter any pet I have. I think that what happened to Dixie was rare but that it should have been caught before she even left the vet's office. I hope this doesn't deter anyone from getting their baby spayed, just trust your instinct if you think something isn't right.

I'm glad she's alright. I had read somewhere (I think on here) that there are two types of anastegia and one type is the cheaper type and is not good to use. I think the spay/neuter clinics use it. I'm not 100 percent sure (maybe someone on here would know for sure) but I think it is the tyep they used on your baby isoflurane gas. I'm pretty sure it was the gas. Again, I'm glad she's alright. The isoflurane is preferable and very expensive so some vets do not want to use it. And the gas is best because it is suppose to allow them to wake up easier and quicker. I really trust my vet, he is one of the best in the area but I really think that he made a very bad judgement call this time one way or another. Everyone makes mistakes but I'm having trouble just letting this go.

The current consensus between his office, the ER clinic, and another vet that I trust is that she had an allergic reaction. That's fine, so maybe it couldn't have been prevented, I don't know. But she should have never have left his office like that, NEVER! For that, I think I'm justified in saying that someone is to blame in that aspect.

I think it was fate that you took her home! Cuz you watched her closer than they could have and trusted your gut bc you know your puppy better than anyone else
