Gizmo doesn't need micro-chipped for another week or so, because I'm sure you're not letting him out of your sight after his recent "adventure".

Are you having Gizmo neutered? If you are, that's a good time to have it done. But all the reading about people losing their yorkies or having them stolen scared me straight, so I would've had it done anyway. I don't know if I'll have ol' Reggie chipped - I don't know anyone that wants him but me.

From what I've read Avid and Home Again are the two main chips. And most shelters and vets have multi-chip scanners that read both chips. Does Home Again use PETtrac for their database or a different database?

True, but he's a little Houdini! I'm not really worried about the microchip. I am worried about the neutering, but I know he will be healthier and happier for it.

I think we need to wait until he's finished his vitamin k treatment though...just thought of that! I will have to ask the vet.

I don't know..I didn't ask or did they say. They jsut told me about the payment plans that I can choose from and how it works.

I was just curious. Did you have to fill out any forms and send them in separately? That's what I did today. Had to fill out a form with all my contacts, pay $18.50, and sent it to PETtrac (not Avid).

Each time, I have to re-convince my husband of the health and happiness reasons.

But boys (at least here) don't even have to spend the night like the girls do. I took him at 8am and picked him up at 4, and he was just fine by then.

One time fee per dog. Or there's also a $50 fee for up to 5 dogs, I think it was.

And even if you DON'T register with PETtrac, the chip is still registered to the vet that injected it. So if your pup was ever found, they would contact the vet who registered the chip. As long as he's still your vet, you'd still be contacted.

I had to fill out a form, and pay $25.99. Then the doctors office sent it in. Then I have to pay $10 a year or I can pay $24.

I didn't even think about that. I will have to see what I pay because I am getting Dakota done in Novemember, thats when she will be 6 months.

Hmmmm, sounds like it must be a different database. Guess it doesn't matter as long as our little guys are safe!!

I went through our humane society. Was way cheaper than my vets office. $25 per dog I think and no yearly fee

Lacy and my cat were both received their microchip while they were awake. Neither one of them reacted much to it. I think Lacy kindof jerked and make a little noise but nothing major. The vet said he was surprised she didn't react more since she was a small dog. My cat didn't react any more than she did to her other vaccines.

Educate yourself and buy from reputable breeders or rescue.
