Avid microchip & PETtrac Coby was microchipped on Thursday along with his neutering. I am sending in my PETtrac registration. I didn't remember to ask the vet on Thursday but I will when we go back for suture removal. But is there "testing" when microchipping? How do we know the microchip is readable? When we register with PETtrac, how do we know our information was uploaded to the database correctly? I'm a manager of a fairly technical department, and I never trust ANYTHING technical unless it's tested. So while it's supposed to give me peace of mind, I find I'm still a little leary....... |
Aubrey was neutered and microchipped on Thursday to!!! i dont know if they check it or not, didn't think to ask that question. I will when I take him back. They might do a test scan on it.. |

A test scan is a great idea. Do you go back in 2 weeks? |
Wait........ I had another question too. They gave me this "little" tag that is supposed to go on his collar. On a Yorkie, that's not a little tag! (Not to mention ugly) Do yours wear their tags? I usually get the slide on tags for the little guys' collars. I wonder if anyone makes a slide on that could be double sided and include the Avid # too. |
When you go back in to remove the sutures, have your vet scan the chip to make sure it reads the number. Its a good idea to have it test-scanned every time you're at the vet just to make sure it is scanning right and hasn't migrated. Once you get all your information sent in, you can also have your vet scan your chip and check the information in the computer to make sure it is correct. Lacy doesn't wear the tag that goes with her chip. |

You said exactually what I was going to say about Aubrey. I can't keep him from jumping around... I think his anesthesia has worn off..... I got back in one week. They told you two? |

(LOL -- My husband won't even look at the sutures. I thought he was going to pass out when I tried to show him.) |

How uncomfortable is it for them to get the chip? Did it hurt them really bad? They say the needle is really big! |

Here's what Avid says about it........ Does the procedure hurt the animal? Although the microchip needle is larger than a typical vaccine needle, the general rule is this…your animals will react the SAME way to this shot as they do to any other. No better, no worse. Animals do not over react to it. Their physical performance is not impaired and there is no scarring. You are not injecting any substance that can burn or irritate; the chip is completely biocompatible and non-offensive. Does the animal have to be sedated for the injection? No! Injecting the AVID® microchip is just like any other injection or vaccination. Anesthesia is not required or recommended. |
