| Yorkie = Bird Murderer?!? I've had my lil' Beau for almost 6 years now and I just recently (as in days ago) brought home a baby bird. I was walking around with the birdy in my hands and she (the bird) tried to fly and glided to the ground. The minute her feet touched the ground Beau tried to kill her! He lunged towards her and started to growl at the bird when I caught him mid-air. I made Beau go into the sit and stay position until I got the bird back into her cage but if I hadn't caught him it could have been...UgLy!!! Is it a yorkie thing to hunt birds because I've caught him jumping in the air to catch wild birds too... Any ideas on how to make them stand each other so I don't have to put them in seperate rooms? H-E-L-P!!!!!!!!

| Their original "job" was to hunt and kill rodents, so I imagine birds qualify as small prey. He could also be a little jealous, too, since you were carrying around the little bird. He thought, "I'll show that bird who the boss is in this house!"

| Yorkies were not originally bred to be lap dogs. They were bred to hunt small game (birds included). Your yorkie was just following his natural instincts. I'm glad that you were able to catch him in mid air and save your birdy.

| Lacy sure would kill a bird if she could catch one. Anytime we're outside walking, she goes crazy when she sees birds. She always tries to run over to them and catch them. She also attacks frogs. I had a hampster once and was showing her the hamster and she tried to nip at it (and she NEVER bites or nips at anyone). I would never trust her around a bird or small animal

| I wouldn't ever trust them together if I were you. Yorkies are hunting dogs, and birds qualify as prey.

| I agree it's the prey instinct. Just keep that little birdie up high, or you may find him in pieces.

| Yeah, I agree. And not only bird, they will even go for cats sometimes. Some friends of mine, yorkie breeders have got a little cat and some of her yorkies (all girls by the way ) have lunged at him several times, growling and behaving quite aggressively.. The cat is not supposed to be in the same area as the yorkies but the poor pussy cat sometimes gets too lonesome because he doesn't have a playmate gets near them. I hope your little birdie will be fine in the future. Rubi,Real Rubi (member of the Dirty Furkids Club: Just say no to bein' clean), Jennie and Mimosin |

| we have a goffin cockatoo Bailey, Bailey and Ichabob had this game they would play all the time, If bailey got down from his cage Ichabob would run in the sun room and bark and bailey would run back up his cage and laugh. they did just several times a day, Ichabob never tried to hurt bailey, he would just growl and bark at him, bailey would spread his wings out and yell. I really think if bailey had turn the tables Ichabob would of run for dear life. |

| Unfortunately, my yorkies have killed 5 baby birds this year. For some odd reason, the mothers keep laying their eggs in our yard and our dogs wait for them to hatch. We've contacted animal control trying to get the nest moved, but they refuse. It's just terrible, but they pull the birds until they stop making noise, just like a squeaky toy. Poor birds, I feel so badly for them. |
