| Is this a crazy idea? My daughter is going off to college about 11 hrs away She's leaving next Sat. Aug. 18 to go to band camp - she's a twirler, then on Fri Aug. 24 I'm driving to the university to bring all her stuff & attend a parents orientation (the one I went to in June wasn't enough) & then be there for a ceremony that is the bookend - opposite graduation I'm wondering if it's crazy to take the dogs with me? They came with us in June - they went to Pepe Mint's for a few hours & then I boarded them - but in the car there were 2 of us for that trip to manage the dogs & give them attention. Now this trip I would be driving there & back by myself. So I don't know if this is just too much with 2 yorkies. The pluses are I would spend less time away from them. And the BIGGIE is I'm afraid I will really need them after leaving my daughter at college! I may need the furbabies to lick away my tears! Every mother I know says they cried all the way home after leaving their children at college - but I can't or I won't see the road! I also think the dogs might be good company & help me. Bad part is it means boarding them again & they had never been boarded before the last trip to Nashville. They seemed to fair ok, but I hate leaving them - it would be for 1 or 2 nights - I have to work out the logistics if I'm taking them with me. Have to make sure the pet resort opens early enough for me to drop them off & be back before the time the university assigned me to move my daughter in on Sat. open to suggestions yorkiesmiles & Bubba & Roxie |

| Oh Mandee! Are you sure - you've had your hands so full lately - broken leg & yorkie train & everything? You're a wonder! I've got to figure out if I would come all the way to Nashville Friday night or not. And where I would stay that 1st nite. I have to be at the university by 9:30 Sat. & would leave early Sun afternoon - I can't remember exactly what time all that is over. |

| That's a tough one. I guess it depends on how much your daughter loves the dogs. If you bring them, and are distracted by them, she might feel slighted by the lack of attention she's getting from you. But I can see the good reasons to bring them, too. Follow your gut. I'm sure your daughter will do great at school. Don't worry about her too much!

| Can you drag a friend along? Someone you really like to laugh and joke around with? That made a big difference for me. We laughed and joked all the way home. That would also give you someone else to help unload stuff, watch the doggies, and someone with you on the drive home to help distract you. Hugs! Been there, done that and now he's back at home.

| I wish I could find someone to go with me! I have asked a couple people, but no takers! I need to find someone who wants to see Nashville or loves country music for all those trips I'll want to take down there. I have air tix for a trip down for Family Weekend at the end of Sept., but other times I may drive - it's horribly expensive to fly out of DM usually & there are no direct flights to Nashville right now. Maybe I need a good cowboy to go with me! Or a new friend part way there I could pick up on the way Ok - that's the next phase after moving DD to school - find a good man! |

Thanks for the kind words about my daughter. I know she will be ok -- it's me everyone is worried about. It's been the 2 of for almost 13 years. The house will be empty without her & I'll have a lot of time to fill. More time for yorkie love though, | |

| we miss them more I think ... Quote:
I had the same situation when my daughter went off to State University only 50 miles from me .... only thing was that she cried so much, I decided to sleep there but it was so hot and the bed was so uncomfortable, I figured it would be best to bring her back home that night and drive her there in the morning. So for 4 days we commuted ... then I had to go back to school and she and I had to come to grips with that! A week later she was fully immersed in college life and I was home alone (but had school to go to daily, so that filled the day) .... A year later Bill and I decided to get married (he moved here from CA) and G-d kept him with me until a few weeks after her graduation day 3 years later ... ***sigh*** ... He was operated on the day she graduated, and passed away 16 days later ... was he really sent to keep me company while she was in college? Who knows? G-d really does work in mysterious ways. Monday came into my life 6 months later!

I am so sorry to hear that someone you loved & cared for so much would be with you for such a short time. Life is so hard to predict, that is why we have to lean on Him - God does have a plan for us. How fortunate for you that you found love.

| Pepe Mint you are just the sweetest person. I understand how you fell. My daughter's going to be a Senior this year, and everytime she talks about going away to college I cry like a baby. I'd take Pepe Mint up on her offer. You would know your babies would be well cared for.

I'll call or PM you in the next couple days. You are truly a lifesaver!! I'll just have to hope the dogs can go that long without tons of attention in the car - lol

| I am in a similair situation as you. Friday we have to drop off our oldest son at college which will be devasting in itself. Then on the same weekend my other son has an out of town soccer tournament. I wanted to bring my yorkies as to soften the blow of dropping off my son and of course I like to have them EVERYWHERE with me and I hate leaving them at home. My DH says leave them at home the weekend is to crazy. I"m sad, what do I do? |
