That should be brought to the vets attention - I'd be in there waving my arms around demanding a normal bill. Chubby - did you pay by credit card ?? Did you agree to all this up front cause sorry sweetie - you were taken for a ride - I'd def go in and dispute the charges - that's robbery | |

| Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | A little advice Chubby. ..... Whenever you have a 'procedure' done - call around and get 2-3 price quotes so you'll have a ballpark figure of the cost. Unless that is one SPECIAL vet - there is no excuse for that kind of bill and you were really taken advantage of. I don't want to make you feel bad but you were gouged. Even with insurance (which is WHY the vet did that) you probably paid more than what most of us pay WITHOUT insurance. |

| I paid 80.00 to extract a tooth at a local vet office that is the most expensive in my town. That seems like a lot, but thank goodness for the insurance I guess! |

| I have found that when you have insurance, (for myself or for the doggies) they add a tad bit more so they can give you a "discount"... and do not forget that you are paying $300-400 a year just for the policy .... I dropped VPI for that reason. They had a big sticker on Freeway's chart INSURANCE ... that was my first clue ...

| [QUOTE=Janie616;1299919] do not forget that you are paying $300-400 a year just for the policy .... QUOTE] i figured for one year his dental work will roughly cost around $300-400 that much and his shots and office visits and if he does plan on getting neutured it will be covered also |

| Wow, that IS ridiculously high, even for California! If I were you, I would call various places and price them! I am glad that you saved with your insurance though! I just bought insurance and hope that I will come out better as well!

| Insurance is good to have for unforseen surgeries and accidents too...the younger you get it, the cheaper it is.. |

| My Biggie is also on The Banfield Wellness Basic Plan. The plan doesn't expire until March 2008. Banfield charges a fortune for everything. When Biggie was neutered, they didn't even mention removing any puppy teeth. When we noticed they were not falling off (he is 7.5 Months now), we did not even discuss taking Biggie to Banfield. Sorry to sound terrible, but that place is a rip off! We have noticed time and time again that they over charge for EVERYTHING. We had Biggie in 2 months ago because he had loose stool for 1.5 weeks and they wanted to charge us 20.00 just for someone to hold him while doing x-rays! We took Biggie to a local private Vet. His estimate to remove 4 teeth came out to 216.00 including all tests, anesthesia, fluids, extraction, etc. His surgery is this Friday..I'm a little nervous, but a feel this vet really cares about his patients..it eases my nerves a little to know that. |

| I feel like that price really is not that outrageous...Bruce is just getting a cleaning and sealents put on next week and the veterinary dentist is charging me $500...1.5 years ago Bruce due to a severe malloclusion had to have one of his lower teeth shortened to help correct his bite which required a root canal, at that time the root canal and cleaning was $2200. This is still not much compared to the $3200 for one crown on my human teeth...I think dental work dog and human alike is a ripp off.
