| Re: Boobah I am having problems training my 5 mos. old yorkie. She is forever awake, except at times during the day. Last night she was whining and barking at nothing. I know I have to practice patience. This morning I stepped into her doo doo. My aunt says I shouldve thought twice before getting a dog. There is no yard for her here. I have yet to walk her and maybe deplete her energy at the park. I will do that today and everyday that I have a day off. I gave her a bath yesterday, she fought at first then she calmed down. I will give her one every saturday. I cleaned the mess she made on the carpet, I think I made a white spot on it. A lot of the carpet is ruined but what the heck. I wanted a dog. Maybe she'll calme down later on. She becomes very snappish at times, she loves to bite and once made a serious cut on my finger. I tell her "no bite" and tap her on the head. I have good days and bad days with her. I still love her though. As you know, my first dog was a tiny maltese puppy. Vet said she died of kidney or other symptoms. I will take it a day at a time. I bought a book on yorkies called "Yorkies for dummies". She ripped a page out of that. Sometimes I feel like I should call the "dog whisperer", Cesar Millan. lol

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Sounds to me like your dog is begging for more exercise. Somehow, you have to make time in your day to take her for regular walks, preferably one in the morning and one at night. At the very least, spend 20 minutes twice a day throwing a ball for her in the house or playing some other game that allows her to burn off some of that puppy energy. It will do two things. It will put her on a schedule that leaves her tired at night when you go to bed. It will also help with potty training. Exercise makes your dog want to go. And a leashed walk ensures you'll be there to praise, praise, praise when she does it right. That's the best way to potty train. Don't give up! I think you'll find it's easy once you establish a routine. Good luck.

| The 20 minute ball session is a lifesaver when for whatever reason I don't have time for the long walk. I'm very lucky that Lucy lives for "fetch" and I play ball with her before I leave in the morning and several times after I get home... Best of luck!
