Hairballs?? Do yorkies get hair balls? Olivia sounds like a cat when they have a hair ball, minus the violent hacking. It just sounds like she's trying to get something out of her system. It usually just happens in the morning. She coughed the first couple of days we had her home and then it stopped, and she started up again yesterday and today. I mentioned something to the vet during her well visit and he didn't seemed concerned. I originally thought it could be kennel cough, but since the vet did nothing and it stopped, I ruled it out. I gave her some Nutristat yesterday and today to kind of "grease" her throat, and it seemed to help. Could it be because she was barking a lot yesterday while playing? (She gets mad when other animals- mainly cats- don't play with her, and barks her little head off!) What do you guys think? She has an appointment on the 25th for her last set of shots. Is this anything I should mention to the vet before her next appointment?

orkies will make you nuts with that sound but especially when you try to make someone else understand how they sound. Several thngs could cause the sound, barking is only one. Yorkies do not have hairballs like cats.. and I would say, if it lasts another 24 hours, let your vet know..could be something or could be just a raw throat from her vocalizations yesterday..

Coughing Yorkie Mine does this to the vet.. thinks I'am crazy but she does this usually in the mornings, but I have noticed after i use hair spray, or use air freshner or if she get around the cat that is what triggers the coughing act like the sound of something hung in her throat I think she has allergies, but now i kind of watch to make sure she is not around when using these things to not trigger the cough... good luck......
