| Question??? My yorkie, Romeo, is almost 2 1/2 yrs old. Today he lost a tooth in the front , left of the center. I cant tell if it is an adult or baby tooth. I thought they were going to pull his remaining baby teeth when he was neutered long ago. I can take a pic and post it if that would help. I am really concerned. Thanks! |

| Poor little baby... If there is a hole where the tooth was (as in no tooth looks to be pushing where it fell out) it is probably an adult tooth. If he lost it from playing then it is probably no big deal but if it just fell out he probably has tooth problems. I would try to wiggle all of Romeo's teeth to see if any are loose. If any others are loose he should go to a vet because that would be peridontal disease. Ellie had this happen a few months ago. She is five. It turned out to be stage 3/4 periodonal disease (highest is 4) and had to have 9 teeth pulled. Her breath used to smell horrible because of the infected gums. We would have just let the one tooth falling out go but then with them wiggling it wasn't a good sign. If it is peri disease, left untreated the infection can spread to their organs. Lets just hope he lost it playing.

| Thanks to Ellie May for the response. I'm ashamed to say that when I leave to go to work Romeo tends to jump up and bite the doorknob. A little before he lost the tooth he had his cotton fuzzy bone out to play with. I wiggled all his teeth, none of the others seem to be loose. I am still going to make an appointment Monday just to have him checked. Any suggestions for cleaning their teeth. I try to brush his but he hates it and I dont feel like I do a very thorough job. How about a cleaning at the vet? |

I got one of those fingertip toothbrushes for Jake because he would fight a toothbrush. The fingertip one works great because he doesn't mind my finger in his mouth and actually is so used to it now that he sits pretty still. I can do a pretty thorough job with it. You can get them at any pet supply store, and I think I've even seen them at Walmart and some grocery stores. | |

| Okay everyone. I called and got Romeo and appointment to go to the vet tomorrow at 9:30. He is acting fine...but I still dont see a tooth coming in behind the one he lost. His gums look fine to me, not red or inflamed and his breath doesnt stink at all. I am really hoping this is all just an accident from playing and jumping at the doorknob. His annual check-up was in April and they said his teeth looked fine and that he probably wouldnt need a cleaning until his check up next year. I just dont understand. But I guess we will find out tomorrow. |

| Since your vet said he didn't need a cleaning in April I am sure it was just an accident. Biting a doorknob...thats gotta hurt.
