He found out that it is against state law for any animals to be in any establishment that sells food items UNLESS they are service animals. He said that all he would do is ask someone to leave, but he didn't know what a police officer or health official would do. He thinks that Walmart could get cited by the health dept.

So, no more trips to Walmart! But I understand.

Yes, Wal-Mart in Union City does not allow dogs at all since they have a McDonalds in there. The fine is $500!!!

I knew EXACTLY what I wanted, where it was and Max was IN a carrier. I got almost to the sporting good section and a worker stopped me and told me that there was absolutely NO PETS allowed in there and that they AND I could be fined something like $10,000 . I had no idea! I did grab what I wanted and got the heck out of there after luckily, paying at a self-checkout! I don't even try to take him in anymore!
I agree with the comments that if one dog can go in, then so should any other dog...you can't monitor their size or whether you can carry them or not...at some point, I'm sure someone would come in carrying a mastiff. And yeah...think of the mess on the floor....not all dogs are averse to doing their business in a very public place, LOL.

wow.. i had no idea they could fine you. and with all of the crap walmart as a company is doing to 'take over'..... yeah, they really don't need the money. but wow. fining is just rediculous.

I don't know about that fine. It seems like you could get off by saying you didn't see the sign.

Its not a matter of size, I think its a matter of keeping the dog in an enclosed carrier. If they can keep their mastiff in an enclosed carrier, where if he pees or poops, its in his carrier, and where no one can be bitten and no merchandise can be damaged, and no fur can get in anyone's food...then so be it.

Actually, you just cant have ANY pet at any Wal-Mart since they have a McDonalds (in most of them).. I asked a Wal-Mart associate before and I was told that the fine for having a dog (or any pet) in their store is $ 500.00... in a carrier or not... They just cant have pets in the store coz it violates some food regulations... This was the wal-mart in Union City, CA. I dont know about the other wal-marts around the country.

Yeah it sucks! But I love living in California. I can pretty much take my dog in any stores... Stanford Shopping Center, Telegraph on Berekley, and pretty much any store in San Francisco and more and more hotels/motels are being more pet friendly now... I love it!

If you're ever in Sarasota, take your baby to St. Armand's Circle on Lido Key. It is a very pet friendly place. You can eat at most restaurant with your puppy on a leash and most of the stores set water bowls outside for dogs.
