| Kids are ALWAYS picking up Paddington!!! I can't stand it! I am a preschool teacher and love children, and I think Paddington can sense that because he is very friendly with them. As a result, the kids pick him up.I tell them nicely to put him down, and most do, but some ignore me and I have to take him from them. I never quite know what to say when adults pick him up though! Some people ask "can I pet your dog" and I say yes, and they pick him up!!!! I said you could pet him, not pick him up!!! It doesn't help me when I'm training him not to go bonkers when he sees people.... not to mention it scares the bejeezes out of me! -O

| I love that everyone on here can relate. This is my first post. I almost went crazy when I started taking Copper out in public. He used to climb in my purse on his own so I would just carry him arround like that. I had a lady walk up to me and reach under my arm and grab him from my purse. Then she asked me every question under the sun about him, I was so shocked I didn't know how to take it. My Bf grabbed him from her and we excused ourselves. I didn't want to take him out for a while after that. Scary people! |

| Yes, I get this far more than I care for. I think it has to do mainly with the appeal and attraction these fantastic little dogs have as pets. They're cute, they're smart, they're small, they're fun. For some reason, these people think that they're up for grabs if you simply ask. I think this has to do with the different kinds of people. I have NEVER asked to have someone's dog, just like I'd NEVER ask to have someone's (human) kid. To me, my dogs are my children. I tend to get offended when people try to grab my dog or ask to buy to have my dog. If you wouldn't do it to someone's kid, why do it to their furr-kid? You're not alone. Just tell them that NO, they cannot have your kids. If they ask again, I'd tell them to sod off.

| Can anyone answer a few questions????? Hello I am a proud new yorkie owner to the lovely 4 month old Oscar and he is the light of my life but can any one help with a few questions I have? 1. One of Oscar's ears has fallen down, is this because he is teething? Is it likely to go back up? 2. I have heard yorkie's can suffer ill effects from anesthetic, is this quite common and how can I minimise the risk? 3. I take Oscar for two twenty minutes walk every day on the lead, my mum says I should let him have some freedom and let him off the lead in the fields but I am worried about losing him, who is right? He hasn't learnt the "come" command yet so I am concerned. Finally, how come the pictures on this site of most of the yorkie pups have pricked up ears, do you "stand" them artificially in America (I am from England)? Thanks to anyone who can help! All wisdom gratefully received...... |

| Hi coffeechloe! It says you are from Lancaster; I spent a month in england last fall and spent a good deal of my time in Lancaster! Welcome to the forum! You might find that you'll get more answers to your questions if you start a new thread for them. 1. My Paddington's ear fell shortly after they started to stand up. This was because of an ear infection. I've heard of yorkies' ears falling because of teething, but if he is also scratching at it and whining I'd have it looked at. I thought mine was from teething too, but it was a pretty bad infection. 2. I have no idea, but I'm curious to know the answer as well! 3. DO NOT take him off the lead, especially if he does not respond to "come" yet! I walk Paddington through a park, and I used to let him off his lead when we came to a big field. I stopped that ever since he went chasing after a bicycle a few weeks ago!!!! I couldn't catch him, and the cyclist had to stop and catch him for me! I was terrified! And Paddington is very good at the command "come"... you never know what your puppy will do when he is so excited! 4. As the puppy gets older, the ears will stand up naturally. Hope I've helped! I'm new to this too; My puppy Paddington Bear is only four months old, and he's my first dog. You'll get tons of info here!!! -O

While i was waiting for him the lady appears again cause she was going in to the building and she KEPT saying it over and over. Then she tried to pick her up and I stopped her and said "She jumps" and took her away. She is a nice lady, I see her once in a while walking around caue she lives around here but she's kind of crazy

| This happens to us all the time, particularly at the vet/groomer when we go. There is one employee there that wants Emma, and I mean WANTS her. I don't know what it is about my furgirl, but this lady is in love with her. There were 5 yorkies at the groomer today, and I was thinking-does she love them all like she loves Emma? Nope, I don't think so! At first, it was flattering, then annoying, and now I wonder if it's ok to leave Emma there for the day to be groomed? But, I figure there are SO many other people there, it's probably ok, she probably just has a special place in her heart for Emma, and goes overboard telling me about it!

| Normally they ask, "Can I pick her up?" I usually reply, "No, she gets nervous when people she doesn't know pick or up." Or I say, "No she doesn't like being picked up." Or if it's a kid I sometimes just say, "No"
