| I'm very rarely there by myself. There are normally two bathers and two groomers there most of the day, and the owner is there a lot of the time too. Toward the very end of the day once the groomers are done it's normally just me and one bather left - they clean up the grooming/bathing areas and the store and all until we close and we both leave together. So I'm normally not there alone. We have a short child-gate that keeps our dogs behind the counter. It's a small shop so even if I walk to the back area I can still see up front well. I am usually right there with Lacy or take her to the back with me if I go back there for a while. I have though several times though about someone coming in and trying to steal our dogs so I try to make sure I don't leave her unattended. Just today, I left for a few minutes to walk to a restaurant behind us to get lunch to go and I put Lacy in the back with the groomers. One of said.."are you afraid someone's going to steal Lacy?" I said "yeah...you never know." It's scary how many yorkies and small dogs in general that are going missing...

| A lot of times when Hallee and Gracie go the Groomer, our Groomer tells me that someone who came in wanted to take Hallee home. Hallee is just a tiny bit smaller than Gracie and looks like a little cuddly bear. I can believe it that people would actually ask you this. What are people thinking, that you would actually give your baby to them. Heather |

| One day when I had Davie at Petsmart, I had a lady actually pick Davie out of the strooler I had her in. I ask her to put her back and she was very offended. It scare me to death. I now zipper the stroller shut when I am in the store with her in the stroller.

i think you should try something like, "they are part of the family and it would be like giving you my son/daughter." if you're feeling cruel (yeah, i know) you could say, "he has xxx disease and it costs us xxx amount of money to keep him healthy." no one wants a "sick" dog. and they have no idea...you could make up a fun disease with your family. that way it's a joke when you say it and you can smile at each other. like --giventakinosteosis, which affects his bowels--or pettinskininosis, which makes him highly aggressive towards strangers (if it wasn't for the $1200 a month suppositories). people say the same things about babies. "i'll take him for ya," "oooo can i hold him??" and in texas there is a hispanic superstition about "the ojo" or "the eye" and they canNOT walk by a baby without touching it. this drove me CRAZY! you just have to continue to laugh it off and think about how lucky you are that you don't drive people crazy and have enough respect to treat their kids and animals properly. also, i would be highly angered (not the word i'd use) by someone taking my dog out of a cart. i think you had every right to get on to that woman and screw her if she was *gasp* offened. making me angry just thinking about it. hope that was helpful! | |

| I've had friends say things like "Oh you are so sweet, wouldn't you like to come home with me! I bet you would fit right in my bag..." But they are dear friends and I know without a doubt that they are joking and giving me a compliment on how wonderful Paddington is. I don't know what I'd do if someone I don't know ever asked me to give him away. I'd probably say that there are some good breeders and if they want one then they have to get one of their own like I did. My mom keeps threatening that she's going to steal him She dogsits for me, and every time I come to pick him up she asks "Where are you going with my puppy???" LOL I might get her one for Christmas, just so she'll leave mine alone! -O

| I have had people ask me if they could have Tucker and I laugh it off but I always get a sick feeling in my stomach...I mean the audacity!! The groomer we went to actually made me really uncomfortable because she apparently carried him around with her the whole day and kept talking about how she wanted to take him home...even the cashiers commented on how badly she wanted him. I wouldn't even think to joke about taking someone else's furbaby; I would just compliment and love on them with their owner's permission. I've been lucky in the respect that people generally ask if they can pick him up or pet him first but I would be appalled if someone just scooped him up...especially out of a stroller!

| When people ask me if they could have Conner, I laugh and tell them that they would give him back after 2 hours (and it's the truth!!!). He is a little bugger.

| We have our dogs in fashion shows sometimes..I ran to the bathroom and my stepmother held on to our Gizmo while I ran in. It was really crowded there so you just had to hold on to him so no one would step on him..anyway a lady came up to her and gave a little small talk and then actually tried to take Gizmo out of her arms!!!! She had to get loud and say no - he's my dog!! That freaked me out!!

| People always ask me if they can buy one of them from me. It makes me nervous when I'm taking them for a walk or playing outside with them and someone asks that. I'm afraid that they will break in and try to take them so I always lie and tell them how they all have really serious medical problems and require hundreds of dollars worth of medication each week. No one wants to steal a sick puppy. I live in a nice neighborhood but you never know with some people.
