| Crates Hello, I did a search here...but would like to get more input. We will get our 3month old Kirby in two weeks...and still cannot decide on what type of crate to get. We want it small enough to keep him from pottying...yet he will grow and may want more space. Dh doesnt really wnat the divided wire crate. right now we have a small travel crate for transport which we thought we coul duse inthe beginning. But really but my husband and I want what Kirby will want and is best for him....maybe we will have to wait for a bit and start with small travel crate. what is your input??? Thanks!! |

| i bought Layla the smallest crate i could get and it will still HUGE when she was a puppy so i stuffed the back with towels to make a very small area for her at night... she has since graduated to a bigger crate that i was able to buy second hand. I recommend this becuase you don't know how big your little one is going to get and he might not outgrow the small one, and then you will have this HUGE crate he will never use. I think crate training is the BEST thing ever, and now a year later layla LOVES her crate and can't wait to go in at night and hates coming out in the morning |

| I Use A Crate For Harvey And It Is Quite Small, But His Bed Only Goes On One Side Of It, And On The Other Side I Fold A Wee Pad In Half And Put That In. I Have Read You Are Not Supposed To Do This, As It May Encourage Toiletting Inside The Crate, But It Has Worked Out Well For Us, And We Have Rarly Had Him Use The Wee Pad That Is In The Crate. He Sleeps In His Crate And Uses It When We Have To Leave Him - Which Is Hardly Ever Really. I Cant Say He Loves It But He Goes In By Himself When He Knows It Is Bedtime ----- Ahhhhhhh It Is Really Quite Heartbreaking Though Putting A Tiny Puppy In The Crate And Leaving Thim - But They Learn Really Quickly... Good Luck With Your New Baby Kirby.

| Cody said he didn't mind if I took pictures of his crate to share, so here they are! The first picture shows the crate put together. It was the smallest one in the dog section at PetSmart. The second one shows how we put a box in the back to make it half the size because it was huge for Cody. And the second one shows that as he gets bigger, it fits his bed perfectly so that it's nice and warm and cozy for him. He actually has been quieter in his crate since we put the box in there- I think it's because he likes to cuddle We keep rags and towels in there for now until he doesn't have accidents during the night because we tried his bed one night- he had an accident and then the bed fell apart in the washing machine even though it says 'machine washable'! We were able to put it back together and learned our lesson though I don't think he's going to grow too big for that crate, but if he does I figure by then he'll either be trained enough to sleep on his bed outside of his crate or we'll look into getting the next size up. |

| I got the smallest protable plastic crate from Bargain Hound for $14 . It was still large for her, so I put a water bottle stuffed into a bear in there for comfort and to take up the space. She loves the crate. I have a playpen and a large area in the bathroom gated off. Both have newspapers, her toys, food, water, and her crate will fit in the corner with the door open. This has worked great so far. |

| I use wire cages that I got at PetSmart for our three. They each have their own and when they nap during the day, they go inside with the door opened. They each have a lambskim blanket and bumpers, and Harley always takes a toy. At night, they get a "cookie" before going in and they each go in all by themselves. We used the cages in the beginning for training but now they are a safe place for them when they sleep, day or night.

| My babies each have their own crate, and I bought each for about $40 over at Petsmart. Here's a link: http://www.petsmart.com/global/produ...ext=kennel&N=2 We got the smallest size which actually has a little Yorkie on the picture of the box. It's dimensions are 36X27X24. I found it to be the perfect size, not too small and even now that two of mine are grown they still use their crates as their little dens, they hide toys and when we have company they tend to nap in their crates. Plenty of room to stretch out; it's a little large for my Ocean, and at night I put him in a little cat carrier, but when we are out during the day he's in his crate with food and water. Lol, hope this helps; I also love that there are two doors one in the front, and one on the side. Makes it very easy to clean and also to put a little bowl of water in the back without spilling it.

| I didn't use a crate but have a evenflo Happy Camper portable playpen that nathan plays and sleeps in and it works great for us. When i first brought him home it was huge in my opinion but had enough room for his bed, water food and a wee wee pad and play area...now at 8 months( and all of 3 lbs) he just has his food water and bed...he will not soil the playpen but will wait for me to get home if I have to go out for a couple of hours and can't take him. He is safe and when we spend the night out with friends it folds down goes in its carrying case and we take it with us! And he is right at home!!! No problem at bedtime...he goes in and he knows its bedtime and at 6am he barks to let me know its time to go potty!!! p.s he doesn't sleep with me cause I am not a stay in place sleeper and I am afraid I would squash him!!! lol

| I have crate trained 3 different dogs and think it is the best.... they love their crate.... I leave doors open now and they each go to their own bed... sometimes they sneak a snuggle .... the one I have opens from the top or the door can be removed completely.... I love having the open top especially for puppies... so you don't have to dig for them when they are in a little tiny ball at the back of the crate..... .... Mine will also collapse for storage too... I am not sure of the brand but I will check.... for you |

| i got a small crate then got a larger one once they grew out of the smaller one. i find this is the best way to potty train. also, they will fall in love with their crate. this is their way of getting away from it all. their on little space.
