I would be so mad if someone did something to my dog without permission. I can't believe they won't at least admit that they did it.

how long ago was it done?

i know with my hubby being a tattoo artist you can tell when it was fresh and when it was done by the skin, so i mean if you have had him since he was a pup and you know its not there before and it is now, i would simply call then and ask for a copy of all medical records becuase your lawyer wants to take a look at them and begin building his case, you may feel weak or a littel scared saying it to them but say it and then when they say hold on etc etc
or come by and get them stay strong i mean after all they didnt pay for your pup, they didnt pay all your vet bills, and food ,etc you do and you didnt ask for this thing to be on him, if saying you are taking it to a lawyer and they still wont admit it, then change vets by all means but they should fess up, mistake or not, they can easily refund you the neture fee or something,

I'm real sorry and I would be totally ticked too. However, it's obvious the vet isn't going to own up to it, your baby isn't harmed and since tatoos are permanent there really isn't anything he can do about it. It's there. I would file a complaint against the vet with the licensing board, BBB, attorney generals office or whomever. I would make it a point to tell everyone I knew to never ever go to his office. I agree if he did it he should compensate in some way for it, but how so, I don't know.

I would find another vet and have them obtain a copy of your records and go from there. Unfortunatley you can't remove it and I personally wouldn't put my baby through it again to 'fix' it.

That's what I was thinking. I really don't want him to be in pain again. I think what I will do is file a complaint with the vet licensing board and go from there. I am definitely not taking him back there again. He will be losing about 9-10 patients after I tell my godmother (2 dogs), my sister (3 dogs), my brother in law (1), my other brother law (2), my neighbor who is a really good friend of mine (2).

I agree with Kathryn...they should have a record if it was there before.

As for damages, this is how I would feel about it....I would have to pursue the issue just so it doesn't happen to someone else's baby. I mean, he needs to be more careful and double check his orders to see what he is supposed to be doing.

Totally agree! But I have a weak heart and I can't threaten anyone (even if it's just to scare them). I might have to let my husband do this one for me because I would feel bad and apologize to them for no reason

When you establish any animal as a new patient it is the vets responsibility to do an exam and take a detailed patient history. During that exam he does a physical, and he makes notes of the dogs breed, markings, they check for microchips, TATOOS, and do an oral exam as well as the ol' therm up the bum! All of this info goes into your pets FILE. A file that they add to each time you come to visit!

If your dog had that tattoo before that surgery, it would have been noted. And your Vet knows it!

I'd file charges just to make a point. Its one thing to make a mistake.. Its something else to deny it and not make amends.

I was going to say the exact same things but wanted to read the rest of the thread before commenting! but yes...this is exactly what I think as well. The would/should have noted in the file if he had a tattoo beforehand. and if it is not in his file, then he obviously did not have it before going in. Now...with that being said...maybe the vet is suggesting you took him somewhere AFTER the neuter??? I don't know...either way...it is just WRONG on so many levels that they are denying it. I would NOT accept this. take it as far as you can. call your local news stations and tell them what happened and how you are being treated. I guarantee that as soon as word starts getting out....they will settle with you...somehow. just to avoid having their name smeared.

and then they will tell all their friends, etc. I think he just needs to be exposed. some how. I would personally take it to the newspapers and news stations. that is just me. I would let everyone know what he did.....people deserve to know what kind of vet they are leaving their babies with.

Just remember that you have nothing to apologize for...your baby has been violated! You're a mama trying to protect her kid....and everyone else's!

This is so very interesting. Why would you tatoo a dog who was in for surgery? Charlie was neutered and he has obscure round black marking when his "boys" must have been. He had this done before I adopted him. If alcohol doesn't bring off the marking, then it has to be permanent.

If I read your post correctly, did the vet admit to permanently tattooing other animals? I though perhaps it was a permanent marker because when I had my hip surgery, I had to mark the leg myself and location.

Definitely, find another vet and to fix the marking would cause him more pain. Good luck.
