| Bronchitis !? I didn't get any replys in the other forum so I thought I might try and post it here as well. Bronchitis??!! Ok , Some of you have read some of my post about My grandmother and her Yorkie. Well now this poor thing has Bronchitis. Let me give you an update. Charlie has had to have TWO surgeries because of a blockage in his stomach. Both times he has eaten paper, cloth, and floss. Now he has Bronchitis. Has anyone ever had this happen?? I mean has anyones dog ever gotten Bronchitis before? If so what causes it and how do you prevent it? Now, Let me throw another questioin out there. Do you think that pampering a dog too much and not letting them be dogs has anything to do with how well they handle germs.. My grandmother takes Charlie EVERYWHERE! He is beyond pampered. Diesel LOVES to go outside and chase toys. He also LOVES to go into the woods and search for a ball that we have thrown for him. Just in general he loves roughing it and getting dirty..so any thoughts on this??

| interesting question... i think that dogs are a lot like kids... and i know sometimes when kids are too sheltered their bodies don't build up an immunne system and then when they get a simple cold, it will turn into something else. like your dog, Layla is out in the grass and sniffing and i'm sure she picks stuff up out there every day, but her body is equipped to deal with it... does your grandma's dog have all its shots? |

| He has had every shot and then some I would imagine. When she take him to the vet it is never a simple ordeal. I think the vet is taking advantage of her to be honest. When she takes him to the vet he is always having blood work, xrays, test... you name it. I just don't understand it myself. She takes Charlie in to have his teeth cleaned 2 sometimes 3 times a year. I can understand blood work but he gets a lot more than that everytime. I sometimes wonder if it has anything to do with his breeding. He is going on 3 and I know she has spent close to $4000 on him in vet bills so far. Like I said he is one of the most overly pampered dogs I have ever seen and at the same time seem to be rather sickly as well.

| I talked to my grandmother yesterday and he was still at the vets office. I don't know what to tell her. Does anyone know if this is a symptom of an underlying problem?

| Update: Ok well he is getting better and so the vet decided to go up his nose and look around. Yet one more time he puts him under. He says he doesn't see blockage in his nose. Then he tells her that he may need to have another procedure done out of town. But wait... He is getting better.... Then I take everyones advice here and start asking questions. Did he check for this or that. She says I trust my vet blah blah blah. I just said ok and left it. Charlie did not come from the best parentage and I often wonder if he has some underlying problem. I know I here from so many on here that so many vets aren't familiar with our little ones. So if you had to guess at what might be wrong what would be your guess. Here is some info... About 3 weeks ago he his 22nd surgery for another blockage. He had eaten a bunch of stuff that he shouldn't have and couldn't pass it. Then about a week or so later he looses his appetite and starts sneezing and coughing really bad. They say he has pneumonia.. They take xrays and things aren't quite that bad. He has bronchitis instead. They put him on antibiotics, benadryl, and IV fluids. Two days later they send him home but he doesn't get better and she takes him to the ER. They did more x-rays and say the same thing. THey keep him overnight for more fluids and she comes to get him and take him to the reg vet. They do the same thing. More IVfluids MORE x-rays and then they go up his nose. However going into the vet was just for more IV Fluids just in case. She brings him home and he dives into the food and starts playing like nothing ever happened. Does this sound like bronchitis or something else or maybe just a cold? I just think this vet milks her for all it is worth. She has been going to him for years and this is always how things go with every dog she has had. I know I would do all that I can for Diesel if he had been him. I just don't think having xrays 4 times in 5 days when he is getting better makes sense. Maybe it is just me who knows. Thanks for letting me vent </IMG>
