| The "new puppy vet check" ??? I should know this after doing it 3 times....but.... When you get a new puppy, the breeder has in the contract to have the puppy checked within the first 48 hours of purchase (or whatever they decided). I always do this, but really....what are they checking for? What should be done when you go? Tests? Which ones? I'm just curious because it always seems like a useless visit unless they are due for a shot ??

| When I first brought Autumn in for her first visit they had me bring a stool sample to check for parasites. They checked her over from the tip of her ears to the end of her tail and took blood. Hope that helps! |

| Yep same goes for me when I got Penny... Stool sample, they did blood test and checked her from the tip of her head to the tip of her tail. they even had her run around the room to see her movements. Cost was $45 |

| I agree, fecal tests, check for luxating patellas, and a blood test.

| Hmmmm....well there was no blood drawn and I especially want the liver checked due to her tiny size! The vets office said they will do whatever I request but that these tests aren't routine. I asked about a bile acid test and they said $75-$135 - which is expensive to me but not in the long run. What do you have them tested for when you say they drew blood on yours?? Do I have to be specific about the bile acid test and anything else? Which I guess I do but I don't know what else I should ask for?!?! Thanks guys!

| Yes, definitely ask for a bile acid test, the fasting kind...It's worth it for the peace of mind. Has she been spayed already? And how old is she again, I forgot...

| I guess I never got this test done with the 2 others! But with this tiny one, I would think its a good idea. however....she is just 16 weeks and 1.11 lbs and The vet office and I agree that it isn't a good idea to fast her for 8 hours!! What do you think? Sounds like a catch 22

My Vet who works with Dr. Susan Centers DVM, who discovered the acid tests, discovered that the urinalysis test to be pretty accurate. Remember anything can throw off the bile levels off at the puppy age.

I do feel she is too tiny to do that to, so I am not doing it. Thanks for everyones opinions, I always need reassurance that I'm doing the right thing! Do you all think I should ask the breeder to reimburse for the ear infection portion? I mean, she obviously came to me with the infections and I emailed the breeder the very next day telling her of my concern and I was right. Just curious....I think in my heart I believe she should pay for it.....??
