Just saw this about little Hobbs and I am very glad that things are better with him. Generally, they will drag their rear ends along the floor when the anal glands are full. This is something that you'll want to keep an eye on. Some of them require it to be done every several months. Good luck and I'm so happy it had a simple resolution. I know it was scarey for you.

Yay!! me and bella are soo happy hobbs is good!!!! thats good to know about them holding it in when their anal glands need to be done!!

I know that is a sign they need it done, but Hobbs never drug his bottom on the ground...not once. Maybe he was embarrased...silly boy!

haha....silly hobbs, if only he would have dragged his butt...hehe
bella always drags her butt when they need to be done, but i will still keep that info in mind! i am sooo happy hobbs is doing good, i bet you are having the best day ever now....

Otis and Oliver are glad Hobb's pooper doesn't hurt anymore. Full anal glands can be a real "pain in the AXX" Ha! I kill me. Glad for a happy "ending"! (somebody stop me!)

Glad to know that he is doing a okay...question though? Expressing the anal glands..is this something that should be done on a regular and how is it done and by who???

Yes I am a new mommy with a baby boy!!!

glad to hear its just an anal gland problem. easy to fix with a little squeeze of the butt LOL probably not so funny for hobbs tho

as for the question posted above, if its not broke, don't fix it

the glands do not have to be expressed on every dog. most dogs express them while they poop. However if you noticed excessive scooting across the floor and licking/biting of the butt area then i'd let your vet take a look. If there is a determined problem and your pup is going to need it done regularly then you can have it done at the vet or groomers

Ya know, I was wondering about whether his anal glands needed expressed, but that thought didn't hit me until after you had already gone to bed. I'm glad that's all it was and that Hobbs is doing better!

Thanks again everyone!!!! It took a blood test and an abdominal x-ray to determine it was only the anal glands, but better safe than sorry, right??? Hobbs is bounding around the house tonight and begging for food......acting like his old self. What a sigh of relief!!!!!!!!!!!
