glad to hear its just an anal gland problem. easy to fix with a little squeeze of the butt LOL probably not so funny for hobbs tho

as for the question posted above, if its not broke, don't fix it the glands do not have to be expressed on every dog. most dogs express them while they poop. However if you noticed excessive scooting across the floor and licking/biting of the butt area then i'd let your vet take a look. If there is a determined problem and your pup is going to need it done regularly then you can have it done at the vet or groomers
