| Scared of Car Rides My yorkie is very afraid of car rides. Im not sure why he is afraid of them but every time he gets in the car he shakes like a leaf. Ive tried putting him in his kennel with the bed in it. He started freaking out after about 15 min of driving. Seems like the only way he's alright is if he is standing with his front paws on my right arm, looking out the window, and pressed up against me as close as he can. Problem with this is it is hard to stear the car while i have eight pounds on my one arm. Sometimes he even goes to the point of hiding underneath my seat! Are any of your yorkies scared of car rides? Have any advice for me at all? I know im running out of options. |

| There are some really cool dog car seats available. You could put it in the front seat next to you and he could see outside and also be within arm's reach I have the Snoozer Lookout and like it a lot.

| Try taking her for shorter rides and only to places she loves to go, like the pet store where she can walk around on her leash and sniff all the great food and treats and see other dogs. Or take her to the dog park if there is one nearby. Do that consistently for a while and see if it doesn't make a difference. |

| maggie is not scared of riding in the car but her favorite spot in the car is exactly where your boy likes to be...on the console with front 2 paws on my arm looking out the windows. LOL. so...I have my backpack upside down in the front seat, with her bed on top of it and her strapped into the car seat by her harness (it came with an extra attachment that makes this possible). This way she is up high enough to see out the windows and can still reach mommy but she is strapped in. she likes it i have also noticed that she likes to ride in my daughters car seat I noticed her back there looking out the back of the car so....I put her bed in my daughters car seat so it would elevate her a little and she could cuddle in it. and i strapped her in with her harness and voila...she was a happy camper she could look out the back the whole trip if she wanted LOL

| Before going anywhere, just try making the car a fun place to be. Play with him and give him treats in it...maybe even feed him in it.

| Bitsy shakes the whole time, too. She gets so excited when she hears the word "go" and runs to the door to go anywhere with us, even if it means going in the car. She's only 8 mos old, so I hope she'll get better with time. |

| I wish I had advice to offer you but I don't. Scampers is scared to death of car rides. He starts shaking really bad and panting to where he almost hyperventalates. He has been going for cars since I got him a year ago. They are always pleaseant car rides and he likes going places, just doesn't like riding in cars. All my other dogs love car rides but no matter what I have tried, Scampers will never like car rides. The only time he does better is when I am driving and he is on my lap. But that can make it hard at times for me too when I am driving. I can't figure out why he acts this way but I doubt he will ever like car rides. Good luck with your boy!!

Also, Bach's Rescue Remedy, 40 mins before you get in the car helps break the fear response. | |

| Do you take him out for "fun" rides, or just to the vet? Lexie has always loved to go "bye bye" with me. I take her for ice cream in the summer and we go to the pet store, to my son's baseball games. She rides along in her carrier. Good luck to you!

| Behind my back/neck This will sound crazy and unsafe but it's really quite comfortable for me! Doesn't bother me one bit as I am driving. Murphy likes to get nestled snuggly in b/w the top of my back (right below my neck) and the seat. He is up high, has close access to me, can look out the window, and is pretty incognito b/c he's a small lil thing. he doens't make a sound or a move, once there. Not sure if I should recommend that to anyone, but it works for us. |

| I have this exact same car seat and my guy Cooper loves it as he can see out of the window. Don't feel bad. My little dogs are very good in the car, now my golden Ginger..well, that is Another story. She just gets beside herself with whining and excitement and it almost drives me insane..probably cuz she is going to the dog park and she knows it.. Kathy |
