Too cute! There is huge debate and controversy about tail docking and many countries have outlawed it. Here in the US, the AKC, the registry that most yorkie show breeders care about requires the tails to be docked in order to show the dog as part of the breed standard. A lot of hobby breeders are starting to not dock tails.

| It's kind of sad because their tails are gorgeous when not docked! If I decide to breed Rylee, I'm keeping one of the pups and I'm not docking the tail. Everytime I think about it, I cringe!

| It really is heartbreaking. However, their dew claws get taken off too; which is recommended for any breed or mixed breed so they don't get caught up on anything which is quite painful for them. I can't say they would cry any less if their tails were not docked and their dew claws were taken off. My first male Yorkie didn't have his tail docked and it really did make him look not quite like a Yorkie. He had the coat, the size, and everything...but still. I do have to agree with one of the posts above, it was a nice looking tail. Yorkies are a lot like a Maltese (which keeps their tail) but with color. Anyway, I would be very happy if it wasn't the AKC standard and it wasn't what people were used to seeing when they saw a Yorkie, that's for sure! Julz |

I did say mine had a nice looking tail. But several people did ask if he was full blooded because he had the tail. Like I said, I honestly wish it wasn't the standard...I truly dread that day for the puppies, the mother, and myself! It makes the body look longer and I think that is what throws people off. It's is like a Boxer's ears not being cropped, they are still just as adorable its just that people expect them to stand up. No insult intended in any fashion.

| Sorry Julz,i didn't meen to upset or hurt you, it's our English sense of humour, Noah is a full Yorkie with a full tail, we have a Springer with a half tail he is a rescue so we couldn't do much about him, over here docking is very much frowned on, and most vets will not do it, and i must admitt, hand on heart i do agree with them, but that is me and i know everybody is entilted to their own views, so please can we be friends http://www.emotipad.com/newemoticons/Blush.gif |
