It really is heartbreaking. However, their dew claws get taken off too; which is recommended for any breed or mixed breed so they don't get caught up on anything which is quite painful for them. I can't say they would cry any less if their tails were not docked and their dew claws were taken off. My first male Yorkie didn't have his tail docked and it really did make him look not quite like a Yorkie. He had the coat, the size, and everything...but still. I do have to agree with one of the posts above, it was a nice looking tail. Yorkies are a lot like a Maltese (which keeps their tail) but with color. Anyway, I would be very happy if it wasn't the AKC standard and it wasn't what people were used to seeing when they saw a Yorkie, that's for sure!
