Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | YORKIE Saftey Tips ~ PLEASE READ & ADD your own There's LOTS of new puppy moms and dads here - and this is for them - AND those of us who don't have a baby because yorkies are perpetual puppies and these can be real dangers to them..... We can ALL add to this - I heard something on the news that reminded me of ALL the things we always need to be AWARE of when having active and very very nosy yorkies.... ASIDE from NORMAL puppy proofing a home I thought I would start a WATCH list of things to always be careful of..... Always watch out when closing a door - yorkies are FAST and can easily get hurt if the door gets closed on them Always keep windows in the car up - they can jump ! Keep ALL medication out of reach - WAY out of reach ..I read where a yorkie got into Birth Control pills that were in someones PURSE - as someone who used to have diet pills in my purse - that was SCARY and sad to read Some Nylon Collars can be shredded and unwind if your yorkie ever gets it off - they can get lodged in their intestines Fences need to be constantly checked - yorkies can dig and watch for holes - they can get out or big dogs can reach in Ponds and pools are a danger...use extreme safety measures - some yorkies do NOT swim Big BIRDS or Hawks around your home is always something to watch out for Always supervise your yorkie around childern - accidents can happen in a second Certain Rawhide Chews can be a danger to yorkies - Most of us have been very lucky - but others have gone thru the devestation of losing their yorkie .... just a heads up to remember to keep your yorkie SAFE !

| Good tips Villette! Sometimes we really do forget how small these guys really are, you have to be extra careful with them. I stress the part about children, they want to always pick them up, but Yorkies are known for jumping out of your arms, so newbies, please super supervise with children!... Theresa & The Boys |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | thank you - I admit when getting my 1st, Chanel, I would have never thought about pills in my PURSE ....Recently a girl lost her yorkie who ingested her BC pills from her purse ....yorkies are so much like children we really sometimes don't realize something simple can be such a danger till it actually happens .... This site has SO MANY new puppies - it's worth posting about and I hope everyone can add to it as it goes - |

| Which rawhide chews can be a danger? My cousin and her husband have a mastiff, and their breeder told them that Nyla Bones were not good because they can splinter. Is this true? I bought some really good spikey ones for my puppy. I thought they were supposed to be good, but maybe I've missed something. Also, are pig ears okay? I've heard they can create some awful gas, but other than that are they okay? |

| Thanks for posting this. We will be bringing Tucker home on Saturday and this was great advice. Bandit was so laid back and never got in to trouble, I guess because he was sick, but we didn't know it. I know I'll be a nervous wreck around Tucker. But, that also means I won't let him out of my sight either.

| Please, please use a carseat or a crate that can be secured to a carseat when riding in a car with your dogs. There have been many instances of car accidents where the dog ran away because it wasn't restrained properly and it was scared after the accident. There are also cases where a dog tried to jump out of a car and was killed. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | OMG....this is SO TRAGIC ! After I posted this I just read this MORNING that someone lost their baby to the Clothes dryer ! I'm sitting here crying for that baby....I can't believe this. Her little baby must have climbed in to the dryer & she didn't know it - I don't know how that could happen and I'm so sorry to depress anyone - but it shows that the LITTLEST things can happen. My heart is breaking for this woman...she's totally devestated, crying and blaming herself.....we know this is a FREAK accident - but it makes this thread MORE IMPORTANT !!!!! PLEASE WATCH out for the Dryer too ! OMG...this is so devestating ....I can't even type this anymore...Please send out prayers for the newest RB angel.... |

| Oh my gosh - that is devestating. Plus, that poor woman will always blame herself for not being more careful. I will keep that poor baby in my prayers as well...
