You gotta do what you gotta do, and I believe I also would wait it out, because as you said there is no guarantee with surgery either.
Please don't be angry with the other people for being suspicious and investigating. These are very caring people on here and it's because they are so caring and eager to help, that many of them have been taken by scams in the past..
You are a new member, and when a new member starts posting about things like this it looks very suspicious. That is sad, but a few bad people have made it look bad for everyone.
The call to your vet actually helped you, it verified that what you were saying was true.
We are trying to put ourselves in your situation to understand your decisions, and you should also try to put yourself in ours to understand our reactions.
